  1. The Empress is beautiful in her velvet gown. The embellishment to the bodice elevated the gown from plain to beautiful. The addition of the gorgeous diamond and pearl brooch brings it to another level. Her matching earrings are the icing on the cake. The other royal ladies look very nice as expected. The young lady in the gray brocade gown is a standout, not only for her pretty gown but because she chose a gold necklace rather than pearls. She is a rebel :-)

    2. Very much agreed Debra! As a side note, I'm so glad velvet gowns are making a comeback, the ones I've seen lately have been so luxurious and beautiful.

  2. Belle Masako dans cette robe en velours de couleur bleue.. J'aime beaucoup ses délicates boucles d'oreilles diamants/perle que je verrais bien dans mon écrin à bijoux !

That brooch goes very well with Empress's dress.

  4. Love, love love the Empress’s earrings! And the detailing on Princess Kiko’s cream jacket is so gorgeous. I think she wore this jacket with a knee-length skirt on another important occasion, and it is wonderful to see it again.

    All the ladies look splendid.

    1. Yes they all look splendid but the Empress seems to stand out amongst them all. She oozes with joy and happiness. Love the hat on the older lady in photo N°8.

  5. Je les admire, cela doit être profondément ennuyeux. Ils font tous bonne figure.Pas de frais pour la déco, c'est toujours la même. Masako est superbe.

  7. Adore the Empress's dress and jewellery. Debra covers it all in the first post. I also love the teal dress worn by Princess Mako and her hat/hairband. It's obviously all very traditional and looking at the photo of the whole group it could come from a century ago but the dresses are lovely.

Very nice and regal look for the Empress. Nice colors of all the dresses of the Pss's. I am looking forward to the State visit of the Emperor and Empress of Japan to the UK in the Spring.

Me too! I have always imagined how nice it would be to see this Emperor and Empress at a UK State visit with the Queen and her family, complete with all the pomp and pageantry that the Brits do extremely well, and now it's going to happen. Something wonderful to look forward to.

  12. I like this event; we get to see them in their matchy-rubric but not all the same color. I like things that let's a personality out a bit and it still comports with their customs. Not that anyone is asking me but there is my two cents. I wonder about Masako not wearing a hat and am semi-secretly hoping she said "No, I will not wear one!" I also note their absolutely flawless posture, all of them. While I like the subjects presented well enough, I don't know that I could sit there in that position and look interested the entire time.

I agree with everything you have said Dellbabe, and particularly love the "No I will not wear one" comment, lol. Well done to you. And as for perfect posture and sustaining interest for so long, the Japanese court is nothing if not an abundance of fortitude. They have my sincerest respect for so many reasons. (Have you noticed how they are all holding their fans in the exact same way while seated?)

  13. I am so happy to see Masako enjoying life, she looks so happy. Is it wrong that I cannot abide the wife of the Emporer's brother??

The Empress looks lovely- the blue is beautiful, no hat(?) and jewels!! Also love Princess Mako’s (older princess) hat & dress- color, design, etc.

  16. The Empresses looks stunning. Love the velvet gown, it fits perfectly, the colour is beautiful. The embroided bodice takes this gown to a whole new level. The addition of brooch and its placement is spot on. Love the pearl and diamond earrings. Very elegant look. The princesses look so dignified and graceful, perfect posture.

Great look. I have the impression that the empress is slowly, step by step, developing her own style. More of this please instead of al those boring "sorry" suits
