Queen Margrethe hosted the traditional New Year receptions

Just like every year, Danish Queen Margrethe hosted the traditional New Year receptions also this year. The first reception was held at Christian VII's Palace in Amalienborg on January 2, 2020 for the Supreme Court Judges, the Royal Life Guards and the Guard House Regiments. Later in the day, a second reception was held for the Diplomatic Corps at Christiansborg Palace. The Crown Prince Couple were also present at both receptions. (Crown Princess Mary had worn the dress on three other occasions before, including the New Year Diplomatic reception in 2016.)

  2. Love Mary's cream with that touch of baby pink (the belt and shoes are perfect). The Queen looks regal in that deep blue with fur collar. The only thing that I find off is the Queen's sash under her jacket, just poking out the bottom, maybe she should've worn it over the jacket? (And this may be a clarification point for me, so if anyone has information please share). But her dress and jacket look beautiful, perhaps she wanted that to shine, not the sash (as she does have so many medals on).

    1. Dear Chel, thank you for posing this question! As you could see in pictures men had arrived either in tails and white tie, or in uniform. Here is the white tie event rule: the order sash is worn under the jacket, all other orders are worn on the jacket, displayed on the left; exception is the military uniform and ladies dress. Such beautiful family jewels! Lovely, beautiful family.

CP Mary looks very good and Queen Margarethe looks nice too but I prefer the fit, colour and overall look of the Queen's gown on January 1st than the one shown above.

On another note, I have always liked the ceremonial uniform of the Danish Royal Life guards. The scarlet tunics match well with the light blue trousers with white stripe, and the feathered helmet just adds another element of Military panache. I know that they also have dark blue tunics and bearskin headdress for guard duty, but this ceremonial combination looks pretty smart.

  5. CP Mary is the epitome of elegance, class and grace. She looks sensational in a repeat gown. Love the choice of pearls, necklace and drop earrings. The lovely finishing touch are her beautiful gloves, just divine. She has perfect posture, a beautiful Princess.

Mary's dress is beautiful, it proves the phrase "less is more" is so true. And like Ava Pittman says, Mary has a perfect posture. The only, minor flaw is her hairdo. It could be even better. But otherwise, perfect. The Queen looks ok. She has a very strong own style, nothing to do with fashion, but it suits her.-Siri

  7. Superbe Mary dans sa magnifique toilette.. J'adore les perles du collier et des boucles d'oreilles ; j'aurais bien vu la ceinture dans une couleur gris-clair !

  8. Mary looks impeccable, as usual. I do love all the royal ladies and their individual styles. She has such poise and always looks fantastic. At first I was disappointed in this gown, but upon looking at it more, agree with the sentiment that less is more.

Her Maj looks fantastic, as usual as well. I know she loves this outfit with the fur collar. I wish I knew more about the tradition they seem to have of wearing this one, and the burgundy velvet one that Mary favors. Is it just THE day to wear these garments, or that they want to show thriftiness? I have no idea, but appreciate how they look nonetheless.
