  1. How can she feel comfortable with this messy hair?

  2. Beautiful jacket dress, beautiful earrings and good hair! But anyone can have that; what takes her over the top is her fabulous personality!

  3. I like that Queen Maxima is wearing clothes from her own country unlike Kate who overdid the homage to Pakistan. I love this outfit on Maxima

    1. I do not think you can compare the visits; this is a work visit with a "business" undertone. The visit of Kate and William was more of a curtesy visit with cultural exchanges. I think that Kate looked fantastic during her visit, and I think that Maxima is appropriately dressed for this occasion (even if I am not a huge fan of the pattern).

    2. She is not on a state visit nor is she representing The Netherlands. She is there for business on behalf of the UN. Completely different reason than Kate was there for.

    5. The Duchess of Cambridge was their on a Royal tour which is totally different to a working visit as an individual on behalf of the UN.

Furthermore, since when was Oscar De La Renta a Dutch clothing brand?

  4. Nor the colour nor the style of this dress-with-jacket does anything for her. The colour of the shoes doesnot help either .
Conclusion: A big no for me.

It was diplomacy at its best and she looked fantastic.

  7. I like what she wears, and I like her hair very much indeed. She defenitely looks cool with this undone mane. And the people of the Netherlands are known to be cool too. So she represents the dutch very well and she's getting more and more dutch herself.

    3. Oh, I already heard Maxima speaking Dutch, for a foreigner who had to learn it from abc, it is good, quite good. Don't be too demanding. I can only not understand her persisting keeping that hair style. Loose hair yes but respecting more natural proportions, like the other royal ladies...

    4. Stuff and nonsence utterly. I have lived here in the Netherlands for more than 45 years. I have only once seen a well cut head of hair and I was so impressed I asked the person who cut her hair ( the person has become a lifelong friend of mine and my husband still patronizes that hairdresser. Anyone who thinks the Dutch are cool can only be Dutch. I love the Dutch they have incredible taste and appreciation for modern design and their own interiors. Rich and poor they heve wonderful flair in arranging their living spaces BUT clothes NO and hair a disaster. I am afraid that Queen Maxima has caught Dutch hair disease and big. That is no matter how much time money and energy they spend on their hair it nearly always looks a mess. WE HAVE ONE VERY GOOD REASON which may explain it. It Always blows here and if it is not blowing it is raining OR BOTH.PLUS Queen Maxima lives in a palace that is quite close to the coast. AND IT BLOWS AND BLOWS AND BLOWS. I know because we live quite close to that palace. FURTHER Dutch people hate convenience. if one can put a parking area for a given building as far as possible from the main entrance to that building they will do it. That applies to palaces as well as many public buildings. A place where a beautifully dressed person can get into a car under cover and dry is almost non-existant. SO however carefully Queen Maxima left her front door to go somwhere if she was not actually blown off her feet ( I have actually had that heppen to me here)then she was drenched before she could make it to the car or entrance of a building. It is not for nothing that an umbrella called the Senz (which does not turn inside out even with gail force 8 winds) was invented here. There are very good clothes designers here (example Jan Taminiau and Claes Iverson) but for reasons unknown Maxima has been brainwashed into using Natan.

All this I had to get off my chest. That said even though I am not so crazy about her checked suit. I do think she looks nice in it. Her wonderful personality forgives all. Lilly T. I would like to hear how you speak Spanish!! Maxima has a strong Spanish accent but thats all.

    5. @Nalerina.... I am Dutch and as a matter of fact I am always dressed wonderfully with perfect make-up and dito hair. So are most of my friends....... you are probably moving in the wrong circles stylewise.
You seem to know Maxima personally as you seem to have insight in her personality. I do not think that you are able to judge someone’s personality from pictures, that is....
My Spanish is poor by the way, but I have not lived in Spain for 20 years after getting a very intensive course in Spanish for more than one year. Thank you.

    6. Lily T., you must be the only one, because everybody at least in Amsterdam wears woolen caps and rides bicycles, and the rai humidity and wind are horrid. You must stay at home the whole time. I know people who have been learning English and live here and still have Dutch accent. Just saying.

    9. The Argentinian accent is very deep. They speak an ancient type of Spanish, using very old words and ña very special entonstion. For a Spaniard (in Spain) that accent sounds pretty, but it is almost imposible to be lost, even living in Spain and we need that they speak slowly to undestand.

      Delete
    10. This is not about the accent, it is about grammar and idiom. Maxima does not have a good knowledge of both obviously, which means that she does not speak Dutch very well.
And as some here state, since a lot of Dutch women have messy hairdo’s so Maxima is excused, a lot of Dutch people have a limited knowledge of our language as well, so here M is excused as well. No problem, but stop the fawning over her good Dutch.
Lily T. (and the T stands not for Trol)

    11. Come on Dutch people, you are so lucky to have her. Monaco was not so lucky.
Atleast tried to learn the language and speak it, her accent will always remain cuz its her second language. And she is fashionable, always smiling, such a treasure.

    12. Lily T...Argentinian people are like her, "exaggerated" in Spain we have a saying "Buy an Argentinian by his price and sell him by the price he says that worth".
They are too much "warm" even for Spain. In Spain we wonder about it, an Argentinian in Holland...Well, at least the Dutch speak..

Also they are not "very" complicated about fashion in general. Probably only Juliana Awada. I have friends there. It is a poor country and they have suffered a lot, there are even children starving.

    13. As an Argentinian I feel deeply offended by your comments. Have you ever been to Argentina to speak likewise?

  8. Quite honestly, her hair and clothes don't matter to me right now. I am just so impressed at the work she is doing as a woman in her own right, outside of her duties as Queen, and as the photos show, in a business world populated by very high ranking men. Well done to Maxima and other women around the world like her.

    1. I completely agree. Maybe Maxima has an accent, but she certainly tries. I don’t live in the Netherlands but I have heard her speak at a World Bank conference (in English), she is smart, articulated and speaks English very well (if with a strong Spanish accent). I am inclined to believe that the high levels of admiration Dutch have for her, even if she has an accent when speaking, they still appreciate her. So sorry, I for one don’t buy some of these very mean comments. Thank goodness she is involved deeply in so many good causes. She may have a colourful, Latin American style and a (mostly) messy hair, but she genuinely cares and makes a difference through her efforts.

    2. @Lily A. From one Lily to another: being critical or even not admiring someone who is being paid enormously for her ‘being deeply involved in so many worthy causes’ is not exactly being mean. These people are overprivileged and their relevance is questionable to say the least.....

    4. Lily A....her accent is not "Spanish", it is Argentinian. Every Spanish spoken country has a totally different accent, Mexico has nothing to do with Perú or Colombia, or Argentins, etc...let alone Spain when we need help to understand sometimes, in Spain our pronuntiation is totally different.
As I said before Argentinian one is almost impossible to be lost.
Queen Sofia of Spain has a strong German accent speaking castellano (the language of Spain) and she struggles.

  10. I like this very much. It’s a gorgeous tweed and beautifully tailored, plus the accessories are smart without being distracting. The hair, well I think it’s quite good - it has some movement without looking straggly. (V.M.)

  12. I don't think the heavy material looks that well on the Queen. Even though she is tall, this outfit makes her look heavier than it should. I like the fringe trim, it gives a nice a little edge, but the pattern is a bit much, too busy. But I like the shoes.

    2. Have a look at the pic - she does! - but it’s not a critical comment, it’s just funny, and a comment on the photo (in which the photographer accidentally captured a bit of the painting behind which then looks like a horn), and not against Maxima ( which so many comments about her are, sadly). - Jemmi

  16. The dress is too long, but apart from that I like the classic cut. I also like the colours involved. What I don´t like is the material, especially for a sleeveless dress. That doesn´t make any sense to me. I associate wooly plaid kind of fabrics with warm, lined outfits, fit for autumn or winter use. And then wear ONE such item and combine it with something simple and solid-coloured, because the pattern is so busy already. Also, I´m not a fan of those frizzy edges, especially if it´s every edge on the whole outfit. A little detail, like along the pockets or something had been ok, but it´s clearly overdone here. Looks like fabric becoming unravelled in all sorts of places.

  17. Oscar de la Renta est né à Saint-Domingue.
L'ensemble trop chargé, mieux avec une veste noire, ou bienla robe noire,
ne l'avantage pas alourdit sa silhouette, la coiffure mieux un chignon.

  18. Lovely outfit which looks great when the Queen is seated but a little shapeless when she is photographed standing up--perhaps a little too long as Vanessa says. Still, a super outfit and entirely appropriate for the occasion.
