The King and Queen of Spain are making a four-day state visit to the Republic of Cuba for the purpose of strengthening the historical ties and bilateral relations between the two countries. On November 11, the King and Queen of Spain arrived in Havana. On November 12, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and First Lady Lis Cuesta welcomed King Felipe and Queen Letizia with a welcoming ceremony held at the Revolution Palace in Havana. The visit is also part of the 500th anniversary celebrations of Havana, the capital of Cuba. The Queen wore a polka dots dress by Carolina Herrera.

  1. Love, love, love this dress. Wish she would get rid of those shoes though - in my opinion, they just cheapen the look. DMP

  6. I love (LOVE!) Letizia´s dress, it is so light and pretty and fits her perfectly. But: I don´t think it says state visit. This is the wrong type of dress for the occasion. It´s better suited for a wedding, a tea party or summer ball.
The lady in blue looks a tad more formal but the 3D-embellishment of her hem is ruining it all. Without the garland hem and with a few cm more length instead, her outfit had been just right.
The brown linen dress is alright if one doesn´t mind the wrinkles. I think I do mind them though.

  10. Letizia looks wonderful and considering she is in country that doesn’t like ostentation , she is dressed perfectly for the hot humid weather too.

    1. Exactly. This 60 year old dictatorship pretends to be “for the people”, but in reality is a country with a rich military, ruling class and poor people with no rights or hopes. Forgive me for my comment, I am a political refugee living in the United States.

  12. Love both dresses. The black shoes aren’t my favorite. Letizia has great posture which makes any outfit look better. Love the last picture of them walking and holding hands.

  13. Love the plain white dress-it is gorgeous and fits the Queen so perfectly. I don't think this can be a formal event as the King is in a casual linen style shirt, much less formal than usual and the whole entourage seem to be similarly attired. I like the spotted dress too but it's not quite at the same level. Like Vanessa, I do mind the wrinkles in the dress worn by the First Lady. I think it's one of the most unflattering things I have seen a public figure wearing. The dress she wears later is much nicer and I'm very taken with the two tone beige/black dress worn by one of the accompanying group. Nothing to match Letizia though. She looks amazing.

    1. The King is wearing a "guayabera" the typical Cuban shirt for men.

  14. Both dresses are elegant and simple, which is what this visit requires, they are visiting a country where food is rationed and people line every day to receive some, rice, beans, powder milk and a Cuban cigar, ( been there) so it’s not an occasion for too much formality or ostentation .
    Less is definitely more.

  15. Both dresses are elegant, simple and appropriate for this visit, they are in a country where food is rationed, people line up to receive rice, beans, powder milk and a Cuban cigar, (been there) over formal or ostentatious attire would be highly insensitive.
Less is much, specially on this instance.

  17. Both dresses are nice, except for the almost bare shoulders on the polka dot one. That kind of ruins the look.
The same goes for he black shoes, she has worn that style before and it's a strange look.

Both dresses are beautiful. The embroidery on the cream dress is exquisite. The only thing I don't like so much is the black shoe the plastic on them. The Queen looks fantastic.
