The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Birkenhead

On September 26, 2019, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the naming ceremony for The RSS Sir David Attenborough in Birkenhead. The ship, operated by British Antarctic Survey, will allow the UK’s research community to carry out world-leading research in Antarctica and the Artic over the next 25-30 years. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a cornflower blue coat by Alexander McQueen.

A classic modern look. Well done .

  2. Classy Catherine! Elegant, stylish and ladylike. The coat seems like any other coat, until you see the back; love the pleats.
I also like how she is wearing blue (and navy shoes) while visiting a wharf and a ship. Nice touch!

  3. It is not often that I have anything negative to say about Catherine's apparel. But, this coat reminds me of military coat in a modern color. The belt is too utilitarian, and the pockets are too large and, I'm sure, purely decorative. Catherine's makeup and hair are flawless. Her shoes are nice and I love her earrings.

    1. Debra, probably she chose this "Military-Look" because she knew there would be men and women wearing a uniform, as every nautic crew does? Just a thought!

  4. They are a wonderful couple and it’s always great to see them at work. Lovely coat and the lighter hair is definitely a good look.

  6. Nice colour but I´m not too fond of that coat. Mainly because of those huge pockets and the excessive pleats in the back, but also because it is neither a dress nor a coat, and is rather tight in either case. (I know coatdresses are a thing, but I´ve never really understood the point of them.)
    Love the block heels.

    1. I agree with Vanessa. To me this sort of outfit comes up too frequently and starts to look like lack of imagination. Her coats start to be as predictable as the style adopted by the Queen.

The sleeves are too long, with a bit shorter ones the coat would look much better.

For me this look could have been a little more polished. She could have worn her hair up in a ponytail (especially as it was a windy day) a pair of gloves and a small tote bag rather than a clutch. Otherwise, it's a joy to see W&K together, they are always so in tuned with each other and engaging with the public. Bel.

It’s a nice look overall, but still left wanting in my opinion. For a custom made coat, it’s not all that well fitting. The top is too tight and you can see it clearly when she attempts to move her arms. Sleeves also aren’t the best length. Either this wants to be an ‘oversized’ style (in which case the top is way to tight), or it wants to be a fitted one- in which case the sleeves are too long. And then it’s the bottom... I take it it wants to be ‘military’ style, or maybe ‘utilitarian’. But between the oversized pockets, the slight peplum cut and the wide pleats at the back, it seems more of a hodgepodge than anything else. It’s not visually pleasing. Colour (and Catherine’s smile) save the overall look. And bonus for re-wearing this.

On the accessories side, I like a lot both the shoes and the new purse (although that’s just where I get a little skeptical: did she actually NEED another navy clutch/purse? I remember at least 3-4 other ones she already has).

Like others, I am also slightly puzzled by the absence of a hat, in particular by contrast to the other ship christening from 2013. What makes this situation different from the previous one?

Sir David Attenborough is one of my favourite people in the world. Amazing work and dedication to the most important cause for all us. Hopefully the message will get through now and more people will become aware of the impacts of their own over-consumerism. I am an eternal optimist.

Bravo to Catherine for wearing something already in her closet! This is a nice color for her, but I do wish this coat could lose those large pockets in front. The collar, belt, and back pleats are classic and great...just no pockets.

On the fence about her blue coat. It seems plain, yet has the pleats which give it a bit of interest in the back, however, the color is not vibrant and rather drab. She is always dressed well, just not in this coat.... jt

The colour of the coat is lovely, but the pockets are so large. If she would mix it up, a brooch or scarf to change the look a bit. All her coats basically have the same look and theme. The style never changes. I like the colour navy for shoe, but don't like the block heel. The bag is lovely
