    Beautiful costume. I like it.
I wonder if they have any rules (like being single or married ) for wearing them ?

Anyone can wear the costume, but only married women can wear the headscarf that comes with it.

Women don't HAVE to wear it, but they choose to. As for the kings of Norway and Sweden, I think there's a matter of tradition. They are more likely to wear some military uniform or some other type of formal attire, but it depends on the event. And also, the folk costumes are usually from rural areas and I don't think the upper class-men from the bigger cities would be caught dead in such attire. (just joking, but still true)
However, we've seen CP Haakon in folk costumes plenty of times. It's becoming more and more trendy for younger men to wear bunads here in Norway, but I don't know what the status quo is in Sweden.

Why do the women have to wear the national costume, but the men do not? Does anyone know the answer?
