Queen Silvia and Princesss Madeleine attended the funeral of Anki Wallenberg

On July 18, 2019, Queen Silvia of Sweden and Princesss Madeleine of Sweden attended Anki Wallenberg's funeral service, held at Dalarö church in Haninge south-east of Stockholm, Sweden. Anki Wallenberg (68) died in a sailing accident on the lake Geneva of Switzerland. Anki Wallenberg had been a friend of the Swedish royal family since the 1970s and was, among other things, an important contact for Princess Madeleine when she moved to London in the early 2000s.

What a sweet idea to celebrate the life rather than the death. There's something beautiful and heavenly in light clothes vs black clothes.
I really like what Silvia and Madeleine are wearing.

Nice to see the Queen and the Pss. at the funeral of the family friend. All dressed in white, nice to celebrate her life, not her passing. Both dresses are very lovely.

    White outfit at funeral? Why?

    1. It is the color of hope. They had requested to come in clothing, light in color.

Family wanted to celebrate life, hence they told to wear "light clothing". It was such a lovely idea I think.

      Family gave this "dressing code".
White/light colors are very unexpected to see at the funeral but I like it. Black can be gloomy but as the meaning of white is purity, innocence, wholeness and completion, then light colors are perfect to celebrate someone's life.
Both royal ladies look very lovely. Beautiful outfits.

In some traditions white is the color of mourning, not black. And white is also the color of life and hope.

Both ladies look lovely. And what a nice idea to change the dress code from black to white for a funeral. Seems more like they celebrated Anki's life instead of mourning her tragic death... which again is part of all our lives.

It looks like it was a nice "celebration of life" instead of a funeral. I wonder if his favorite color was white since everyone seem to be wearing that color and there are so many white flowers.

In many Asian cultures, it's traditional to wear white at funerals. For instance, in Hindu culture, white symbolizes purity and is the colour of mourning.

@Anonymous 9:41pm - Anki was a female, Ann-Christine is her name. I think wearing white is a nice idea.

Looks like everyone wore white - that’s a nice change from black. I like both dresses, although Q. Silvia’s seems a bit too small, especially across the bustling. (V.M.)

  8. This funeral was for a lady who passed away far too early.
The Swedish 'dress code' for funerals are otherwise black. Male family members wear a white tie.
