Queen Elizabeth received new prime minister at Buckingham Palace

On July 24, Queen Elizabeth II received newly elected leader of the Conservative party, new prime minister Boris Johnson at Buckingham Palace and requested him to form a new government. The British monarch remains politically neutral and the new prime minister visits the Palace to satisfy the Queen that they can form her government by being able to command a majority, holding the greater number of seats, in Parliament. Then the Court Circular records that a new Prime Minister has been appointed.

I know it's supposed to be all about the fashion but, how many Prime Ministers has the Queen had? Wow.

How they all compare to Churchill? ;-D
This reminds me, I need to get caught up on "The Crown." :-D

    6. Coralie, I agree with you, I would love to know that, too.
Maybe she's not happy with him, like a lot of people are not happy with him.

Maybe she also thought 'a kingdom for a comb?' xD

I too think that Boris Johnson is much underestimated. He's far from clumsy; he has an interesting background, a very impressive education, is rather accomplished and straightforward. Time will tell how he performs as Prime Minister, but I'll give him credit for being consistent and outspoken. As for his appearance with the Queen, I like both his outfit and his demeanour.
      The Queen looks lovely.

Dear Vanessa, rainha Leonor and other fellow commenters, with all due respect for your comments but I suspect that you probably don’t live in the UK. Mr Johnson is a very controversial figure, immature, arrogant, rude, with 0 diplomatic skills, and the list goes on..... Anyone who follows British politics can tell you much more about his antics as Mayor of London or more recently his gaffes as Foreign Secretary. Yes he is smart, yes he has an impressive education, yes he is consistent in his approach and ideas, but what good is that for Britain if that means being consistently rude, temperamental, consistently self-centered and consistently willing to stomp on every principle and value just to reach his own ambition for political power? Education does not make a person, values and virtues do. As a Brit I am personally offended and ashamed that this person will represent my country in the world stage and is supposed to lead us through the tough Brexit process. The truth of the matter is that there is a vast majority of Brits who think the same and it is our misfortune that he reached the top office through the “back door” without being democratically elected .... But you are of course free to stick to your views, to each his own.... Have a good life! Angela, London

    8. Thank you Vanessa! I agree with you. Boris Johnson is not the buffoon some people in the media would like to make us believe he is. He is actually very intelligent. Let's give him a chance to work before throwing him under the bus!

Angela, thanks for your reply. I won't argue with your views, as there's no right or wrong about anyone's opinion. I'm not convinced though that the 'vast majority' would agree with you, as my impression is the opposite (and I do follow UK politics closely and am indeed in London right how for a few weeks, although I admittedly don't live here).
When it comes to politicians, it is crutial what they do, not what they say. I for one would much rather want a consistent and authentic leader committed to the democratic will of the people (even if with controversial antics) than a politically correct leader acting out his role and selling a narrative (even if in statesmanly manner). I realise that this is a black-and-white comparison, but my point is to give him a chance. Time will how he performs as Prime Minister.

Thank you Vanessa, I actually appreciated your reply, We may have different political views and opinions but that should not make us be rude to one another and attack everyone who has a different opinion from our own (as quite often happens in this blog). A civilized exchange of views done in a calm and factual way is all it takes. And that’s how I see your comment, like a civilized conversation between two adults who don’t need to shout at each other but simply agree to disagree. So I sincerely thank you for that. It takes a mature person to behave like one. I wish more of the fellow commenters in here were like you. But we can always improve:-) Have a nice stay and enjoy our fabulous city! With respect, Angela

Thank you, Angela, I always enjoy a good discussion and exchange of views, and just like you I appreciate when disagreements are worded respectfully and don't lead to attacks but stay civilized and friendly.
I do enjoy London very much, a fabulous city indeed!

I am not British, but I have a deep affection for Great Britain. I hope the new Prime Minister does well. The Queen looked lovely and she displayed a pleasant demeanor. Now she can begin her summer in Scotland.
