  1. On the plus side, it's a pleasantly light and summery look, and the color-coordinated shoes are lovely. On the minus side, horizontal stripes (in this case, a print that creates the impression of horizontal stripes) are unflattering to most women, and I'm afraid Queen Mathilde is no exception.

It is not opinions anymore, it is JUDGING the appearances of royals, specially the women.

    2. Hi, Anonymous at 6:13. I think your comment is a bit confusing, but perhaps you feel that too often it is the person, rather than the fashion, that is being criticized? If so, then yes, that does sometimes happen but I think most of the people who comment here try to avoid that. However, an opinion about what someone chooses to wear will always be an indirect "judgment" about that person's wisdom in selecting a particular garment; nothing wrong with that.

Wrt my comment about Queen Mathilde here, I tried to make clear that I think her dress would be unflattering to most of us ladies, which I think is true (we all have fashion "pet peeves", and horizontal stripes happens to be one of mine :-). I'm sorry if you felt I was being too personal.

  2. Not a patch on the dress worn at the Te Deum. It's okay but there's something matronly about it--can't say why--someone else might be able to identify it. Is it the length, the horizontal stripes? Love the shoes.

Agree - think the impression of 'matronly'ows to her fuller figure.

    2. Mathilde makes sometimes styling errors ok, in this case no reason to dig into the details in my vieuw, not even about the horizontal stripes.

What a lovely dress.Q Mathilde and the king look fantastic. Both seem to be very down to earth people. They love their fellow Belgian and the people seem to be happy with the RF.

Lovely dress, great belt and shoes. His suit is great too but I wish his tie had matched better.

Despite the horizontal pattern, I quite like this dress on Mathilde and she looks good in it.
The red shoes and the mini caplet add subtle style, and the thin red belt adds a hint of formality.

I think the Queen's dress would have looked better if she had worn it without the belt, like the model. Her shoes are great, and her hair is styled beautifully.

  11. This is more up to date that what Mathilde typically wears. There have been studies on whether or not horizontal stripes make a person look wider. The idea that horizontal stripes make a person look wider has largely been disproven. I like this cut on her very much. I think her dresses are usually a little too tight, and this has a perfect fit that is not hugging her midsection. Dresses that are too tight make her look bigger, not the horizontal design. I am disappointed that the capelet was shortened. I like it much better with the original length capelet.

  12. Very pretty - I think she looks lovely and summery. As mentioned above I think it looks better styled on the model without the belt and the bigger cape effect but she still looks lovely. I think these fabrics that drape in a flowing way are much more flattering than the stiff Natan outfits she often wears.

The dress is flattering to Mathilde's figure and the capelet top gives balance to the dress. Hope to see her wear this lovely dress again.
