Late Grand Duke Jean's coffin arrived at the Grand Ducal palace

On April 28, late Grand Duke Jean's coffin was transferred from Berg Castle to Grand Ducal Palace. People will be able to visit to pay their final respects to the former head of state over the next five days. A state funeral will be held on May 4 at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg City and Grand Duke Jean will then be laid to rest at the cathedral crypt alongside his late wife, the Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte. Grand Duke Jean, who served as head of state for 36 years, died at the age of 98 on Tuesday.

  1. Cannot see many of his grandchildren, Guillaume is there I think.

      In the first row there are grand duke Henri and his two sisters (Marie Astrid, Margaretha) and two brothers (Jean, Guillaume) and grand duchess Maria Teresa. In the 2nd row are sisters' husbands and brothers' wives. The grandchildren are behind them and only a few can be seen in the photos.
      It is quite normal that the children of the deceased are nearer and the grandchildren behind their parents.

    2. Of course I was looking at the back rows. But doing so I can only spot Guillaume and Stephany, yes others may not appear on the picture.

      This is not the funeral, just the start of the "lying in state". The funerela is Saturday.

    A Farewell to a great man.Funerals or laying in State is always a sad occasion. RIP GD Jean of Luxembourg.
