Bhutan's March calendar features this very special photograph of King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck, Queen Jetsun Pema, the Royal Grandmother, and The Gyalsey, taken during Losar on February 5, 2019.

This year, Losar coincided with His Royal Highness' Birthday. The King and Queen celebrated the special day with the Royal Grandmother at Bhutan House in Kalimpong. Ashi Kesang Choden (born 21 May 1930) is the Queen Grandmother of Bhutan. She participates in royal duties of her own accord. She is the only queen grandmother in the world. In Bhutan she is called The Royal Grandmother.

Queen Jetsun Pema met with the all-women crew of Druk Air flight KB 130 on International Women’s Day. The Queen congratulated the women, who made history by being the first all-women crew to operate a Druk Air flight.

The crew included the country’s first female Captain, Ugyen Dema, Sr. First Officer, Sonam Lhamo, and the country’s first female licensed flight engineer, Sonam Deki Tshering, along with an all-women cabin crew, push back team, check-in, catering, and other ground staff. Druk Air employs 168 women, who constitute 35.44% of its total workforce.
