  1. This is a definite no. The dress is too tight on the top. Gives her no chest whatsoever (although a little weight on her would also help). The shoes are great

Beautiful dress, love the style and colors! The earrings are so pretty. I think the length of her hair is so flattering. Glad she is letting it get longer. She may have the title of Countess right now, but with the BAFTAs and now this gala, she has really looked like a Princess lately!

    1. She is a Duchess - royal duchesses in the UK are higher ranking than "plain" Princess.

    2. Well, it's all a bit arcane and very ancient English, but Catherine actually is a Princess of the United Kngdom, as evidenced on Prince George's birth certificate, registered by Prince William. One of her technical titles is HRH Princess William. She does not use this, however, even though she could.

Duchess, Princess, future Queen Consort, whatever title you prefer, she looks very regal and royal.

  5. I am not a great fan of this dress. It makes the Duchess look flat chested.

    2. Rainha Leonor. Yes, she always looks lovely. Best of all is her voice. So elegant.

    3. I think this is the perfect exemple of a dress which should been seen in real rather than commenting on pictures, which do not faithfully represent forms.

  6. What a strange dress. But I like the darker colour.

    1. I like the darker color too; it's gorgeous and a great color for Catherine. But unfortunately the effect is of a dark pink bandage wrapped around her chest! I think the dress would be transformed in a wonderful way if the entire bodice were in that darker shade of pink.

The flowy skirt is lovely. Not sure whether the belt helps...am thinking not.

    2. I totally agree! The light pink washes out Catherine whereas the darker color would have looked better with her hair color. It’s a lovely dress otherwise and her hair, makeup and accessories look great.

  7. Not a fan. The bandaged breast look is not very elegant. Meh

Fully agreed. I can’t understand why she can not wear one of her existing beautiful gowns. This bandage top isn’t doing her any favours

    2. Agree. The skirt is very nice, however the lighter shade of pink doesn't look good on her either. It makes her look more pale than she is. Only the darker shade would've been much better I think. I'm usually a big fan of Catherine, but now I'm a bit underwhelmed.
Hair and jewelry are nice though. And she looks happy and confident.

  8. Kate looks fabulous. Everything seems to blend effortlessly giving her a polished look. I love the earrings. I believe they're from one of her go to jewellers. With her and William's anniversary coming up it seems to me that she has really grown into her role as Duchess.

  9. I love this - love the colour, style and fabric. I dont think it makes her look flat-chested particularly, she hasn't got much bosom anyway. Earrings are beautiful, hair is glossy but personally I prefer it a bit shorter or completely up.

  10. There is nothing wrong with looking flat chested. Some women are not busty. When not pregnant or brestfeeding, Kate has a small chest and if she wanted to look different, she would choose a different style. I don't think the chest area detracts from this lovely look. Most models are built like this, and this body type can wear almost anything well.

    2. And some busty women would surprisingly want to be flat chested. I would...

  11. The darker pink top part looks a bit like a big bandage. However, the colors of this dress are gorgeous on Catherine. Her earrings are perfect. And I love the soft, flowing sweep of the skirt.

  12. I usually love Catherine's gowns but I'm afraid I'm not a fan of this one. I couldn't quite put my finger on it until I read the comments of the super observant readers. Pine and Diane, you have it exactly--it's like a dark pink bandage round the bust and not at all flattering. However, I love the shoes, the earrings and the clutch. Not a patch on the Bafta dress, sadly.

    1. It's too bad, isn't it AnnieM? It was so close to perfection. But Catherine is still so beautiful. The color is a saving grace.

Kate looks beautiful and once again the dress is very stylish; the colour of the dress highlights her hair colour and complexion.

What a strange dress... the color combination is spot on but the overall effect is bleh. The belt is clearly an addition by the Duchess and doesn’t belong with the colours of the dress, hence it is redundant. It seems like she wasn’t sure what clutch to use, picked the burgundy one and added the belt to match the clutch so it looked coordinated but in my opinion it is a fail. I agree with the other commenters that the breast bandage is distracting and doesn’t add anything to the dress, it would have been much better if the entire top part was in that darker shade of pink. Who is the designer, do we know? I also don’t like her hair half up, it makes her look tired, washed out and gives her head a strange shape, she looks gorgeous in full updo or full down (as we saw the other night and this morning) whereas this style doesn’t suit her in my opinion, I dislike it every time she goes for it.., Great cause for her and the 100 WIHF to support!

  16. I like the dress, although I can see that it can be divisive. But she looks elegant and glowing nonetheless. The earring are too-die-for.

The only thing I like is the earrings. Other than that the color and the fabric look cheap. I really wish that she would stop with those glitzy shoes. The make-up is really fine as well. Her hair looks matronly this way.

  18. The first thing that came to mind when seeing this dress was "Disney Princess". I don't think it has the elegance that we are used to seeing Kate wear. She is not flat chested, but this dress has given her the illusion of having no breasts. I don't care for the two tone in the bodice or skirt. It looks more like something a fashion student would design. I agree completely with Anon 5:23 about the belt. It looks like an afterthought to match her bag.

In spite of that, nothing can take away from her beauty. Her hair is perfect, and those earrings are exquisite.

  19. The "breast bandage" is very odd, this dress is not a winner for me. I love her earrings.

Sarah,, I completely agree. It's not that she has small breasts, it's that the tops is visibly squeezing her chest. In my view, it also cheapens the whole look. Her BAFTA dress was also tight at the top. Bottom parts of both dresses were exquisite, for sure - and showed the incredible craftsmanship.

Like someone said above, I too do not understand why she needed to buy another bespoke Italian couture gown (not that it's supporting British fashion industry...), when so many beautiful and better fitting ones (also from British designers) sit in her closet after only being worn once (lilac McQueen gown from the BAFTA Support gala in LA in 2011 comes to mind, or black velvet McQueen from the Military Awards the same year...). It's not that she need to demonstrate that she is the glamorous princess, I don't think anyone doubts that. She could also be the more mindful one (and yes, she has done this before, but there is plenty of room to do much better). Two new bespoke gowns in less than a week. It's a very well known fact that the Fashion industry (and our mindless consumption) are huge polluters - and sooner or later that will catch up with us (deny it as long as you wish). Her example in that direction would go a long way for me. I am willing to bet I am not alone.

Oh, and please, don't tell me this isn't the place to comment on that (assuming my comments make it). It actually is - respectfully saying it. If it is a royal fashion blog, I believe it is part of the conversation we need to have - if we are aware of the reality we live in.

Why? Is she not allowed to get new outfits? Is it being limited to the American Duchess only that she can wear a new outfit every engagement whether it suits the occasion or not. Kate spent less than the others last year so where lies the problem? She rewears quite often so a new one here and there i think is acceptable and also non-British every now & then. I'd like to see this comment on the new member who has a penchant for non-British and a good spender too. Just saying, Kate isn't perfect but at least she tries!

If we are going to start talking about being mindful of what they wear and what is spent, then let's start with Meghan Markle who spent 478,089 Euros last year (not including wedding). She took first place of all the "royals". While Catherine took fourth place at 80,237 Euros.

Catherine is a tall and naturally lean woman, and I think this dress suits her perfectly. I honestly can't understand why women should always accentuate their breasts, there is nothing wrong in appearing flat-chested if that's how you are built. I, for one, am envious of her "flat chest" -- life surely is so much more easier that way!

    1. Kate is not flat chested but the design of the dress makes her look that way.

    2. Kate is a relatively small chested woman when not preganant or breastfeeding. Her off the shoulder white gown last week evidences that. Regardless, she doesn't feel the need to accentuate her breasts, and it shouldn't really be that much of a distraction but apparently our society is obsessed with breast size!
