Love the muted shimmer of the dress. With a figure and arms like hers, the gathered sleeves look can work. It was perfect for the occasion, understated yet regal and didn’t pull too much focus from the main aim of the trip and the party.

This dress is very pretty on Catherine. I like the fit and style of the bodice and the skirt flows so nicely.

  7. Beautiful dress in a great color for her, but my attention is diverted to her overly slim frame! See the photo of her getting out of the automobile and the photo of her and Wills walking into the event.
Maybe this is why her clothing just seems to "hang"?

    1. She IS very slim but elegant with it. She has healthy glow as opposed to the gaunt look some very thin models have, for example. It seems to run in her family--look at Pippa a month after giving birth and Carole Middleton has a fantastic figure for a woman in her 60s. I don't think her clothes just hang, they are very well tailored and suited to her frame. Love the shimmery look of this dress and the way it moves as she walks.

I like her dress but her makeup looks odd and agening.

  11. I think the body shaming to Kate has to stop, models are slimmer than her. Kate has had the same body since college. Am I the only one seeing a slim but healthy woman? She has the same body like her mother and sister. As for clothes, the dress is very pretty, I would rather different colour for bag and shoes but I am not sure which colour, maybe yellow.

    1. Fully agree with you! I don't think all comments are body shaming but you are right. She is very slim, just like her mother and sister and definitely not looking unhealthy or something. I haven't seen her looking different than she is now.

    2. Please stop accusing people of body-shaming her. We discuss fashion here, nothing more, no-one has attacked her or written an aggressive comment. For a successful outfit it is crutial to dress well for your body type, and if an already very slim person looks even slimmer in an outfit, I wouldn´t say that it was a good choice. People reacting to someone looking very slim are not body-shaming the person. Even if I say that she definitely is underweight for her height, it´s not bodyshaming - it´s a mere observation. It doesn´t include any judgement. And I agree that Kate has always been that slim, and I cannot detect any difference from her earlier years. This is probably the way she looks, and that´s fine. She does look happy and healthy, no-one has disputed that. Please stop policing this comment section, and don´t make people feel guilty for stating something that is both true and obvious.

    3. Vanessa, the quote above is "my attention is diverted to her overly slim frame". That is shaming. There is no reason to bring up Kate's weight again. This was being discussed quite a lot after Louis' birth, even suggesting that she was anorexic, and finally died down. I am happy to see that we agree that she has always been that slim. It is a sensitive issue for some because they have been the victims of body shaming themselves. I don't see that Annie23 is "policing", but trying to stop another downward spiral into that area--at least I hope.

    4. "my attention is diverted to her overly slim frame" is NOT shaming. It´s what everybody sees that has eyes. It´s not attacking her but discribing the impression one gets when looking at her outfit featured in this post. It is the explicit purpose of this blog to discuss the impression we get from fashion choices. No-one here has suggested that she has a problem or is sick or anything. The only thing the remark suggests is that the chosen outfit isn´t ideal for her body type diverts one´s attention to her overly slim frame (instead of ideally creating a balanced silhouette bringing out the very best in anyone´s given features).

    5. Hoorah, Vanessa! Absolutely agree with your comments over what constitutes body shaming. I can see no way that an overly slim frame could be considered shaming (if only I personally could return to those days, I would be overjoyed!!) As you rightly say, it is merely an observation, like saying that something is unflattering as it makes someone look shorter or fatter than they really are. This blog comments on clothes and appearance--and it's a great blog, one of the few that I make time to look at most days. And I still love the dress which I do think is flattering!

    6. she had a fuller figure when at st Andrews university. Fashion and Body shape match together, and she is not a model. All said, she is a lovely lady

    7. Dear Vanessa, there might indeed not have been body shaming in this post, but like chardonn8r said, there have been a lot of comments on other posts about Catherine being too skinny, anorexic, unhealthy, etc. I think that is why Annie23 commented about it. I wouldn't say that Annie and I were accusing other people of body shaming, but more to prevent it. And I agree with Annie and chardonn8r. But you make some good points from another view and I appreciate that, so thank you for it.

The colour of the dress is a little bit plain but it's shape is ok. When the light comes behind Kate you could see the transparency effect.

Duchess Catherine - often I don't like her outfits but this is wonderful for her. The sparkling colour with classic pattern is a really good choice. Not over the top but very elegant!

  16. That´s a beautiful dress and Kate wears it well. However, for it to live up to its full potential, it needs a curvier body, a perfect posture and a better lining.

Kate really goes in the queen's footsteps. She seems to be her fashion model. Granny style especially fabric and color.

I agree that Catherine seems to be following in the Queen's footsteps. But to me that means, class, dignity, respectful, and tasteful while remaining stylish.

Catherine is tall, lean, and healthy looking. This dress flatters her perfectly. Love it on her!

    3. Just say you don't like the dress and move on. Granny style really, sad that a womann dressing conservatively will be brutally criticized for dressing for herself instead for others. Grow up🙄

  19. Lmao funny how people are these days😂. I've seen Letizia, Maxima, Mary wear similar style of dress like this before and I didn't see people calling it matronly or granny like but when Kate wears it people want to crawl out of their shells what a bunch of hypocrites. Anyways Kate looks beautiful as always and this dress looks amazing on her.
