Statement from the Press Office of Queen Rania regarding the outfits of the Queen

The press office of Jordanian Queen Rania made a statement about the social media publications on the cost of the outfits worn by the Queen during her daily activities. In the statement, it is said that the Office has noticed some wrong publications on social media and that the cost of the outfits alleged on social media is far from the truth.

Statement from the Press Office of Queen Rania

In accordance with transparency principle and in order to provide the public with true information, we would like to make a statement regarding a popular issue.

At the beginning of every year, some foreign blogs make guesses regarding the cost of outfits of royal families across the world and publishes their guesses on social platforms. Last year, we noticed a series of wrong publications on social media platforms regarding the cost of daily outfits of the Queen, which were far from the truth. When we consider those mistakes which does not reflect the real situation, we requested that outfit costs of the Queen not to be included in the annual reports of “Ufo No More”.

For years, numerous publications have been made about the cost of outfits of the Queen. We took into consideration the interest of the public and thus decided to enlighten some details about that subject.

The Queen wishes to represent Jordan correctly and majority of the outfits worn by her during her representation are either borrowed from fashion houses or presented as gifts to the Queen or purchased for low prices. Guesses of blogs regarding the cost of the outfit depend only on “market value” and create a false impression.

The principle of “borrowing” outfits from Fashion Houses is a common practice as a way of introducing the designs of fashion houses. Some people may question why a person with a status like the Queen accepts the principle of “borrowing”, however unless the designers are not Jordanian, we would not make advertisements about any fashion house on social media pages of the Queen.

In many countries, focusing on the spendings of leaders and their spouses and accusing them of extravagance is not a new thing and has been used as a political means in the history.

The Queen is aware of these criticisms and approves that criticism is an important part of the press work and that she is open to all kinds of criticism. The Queen respects the criticisms, always takes them seriously and gives answers to them. We know that this statement may be extraordinary, however rumours and false information that are far from the truth may cause false impression on the public and so we enlightened some details by this statement to prevent that.

The Office of HM Queen Rania

The Duchess of Sussex spended 400 thousand pounds for her outfits in 2018
Queen Rania asked UfoNoMore to exclude her outfit spendings from 2018 Royal Outfit Spendings List. In the list, The Duchess of Sussex is at the first place. The Duchess of Sussex spended 400 thousand pounds for her outfits in one year. That cost does not include her bespoke wedding dress designed by Givenchy fashion house.

Danish Crown Princess Mary is at the second place with her 88 thousand pounds outfit spending in 2018.

At the third place of the list, there is another bride of British Royal Family, the Countess of Wessex. Her total spending for her outfits in 2018 is 73 thousand pounds.

The Duchess of Cambridge who often uses her old outfits with different accessories spended 68 thousand pounds for her outfits in 2018 and took the fourth place in the list.

Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit is at the fifth place with 52 thousand pounds of outfit spending in 2018.

Princess Charlene of Monaco is at the sixth place with 52 thousand pounds.

Dutch Queen Maxima is at the seventh place with 48 thousand pounds.

Princess Eugenie of York who got married last month is at the eighth place with her spending of 47 thousand pounds.

Danish Princess Marie is at the ninth place of the list with 43 thousand pounds.

Swedish Crown Princess Victoria is at the tenth place of the list with her outfit spending of 37 thousand pounds.

Spanish Queen Letizia is at the eleventh place with 36 thousand pounds. These spendings does not only include dresses but also other elements like shoes and bags.

    1. Anonymous at 7.25 PM: Did you doubt that after many public appearances when you read the names of the Fashion-houses she wears? I did not. She chooses mostly lovely and very expensive, exclusive wardrobes. But anyone who is able to do a summary knows, how much it costs. I am sure, Queen Rania is not at all the top of the list. Never. Not a clever PR start for the Duchess os Sussex. A bit more "slowly" would have been better for her new image (my humble opinion).

I'm not surprised because she has had to acquire a unique wardrobe for duties. I also think she's making good choices, especially with British fashion houses like Victoria Beckham; these can be reworked and reused well for years to come. Frankly I prefer the styles of the Duchess of Sussex (and the Duchess of Wessex) because of the quality of the separates they choose - both women have worked in high levels of business and know what works on them and for them.

    3. I can imagine her haters using this I formation as another basis for trolling her. We have to remember that she is new and is probably building up her wardrobe. Also, she went on tour last year.

    4. Actually to Meghan´s cost is also calculated more than 200 000 £ of her gifted jewels. Since when a) person pays for the jewels she got as wedding presents b) jewels are clothes c) only Meghan´s jewels have been calculated to this? Also what I do not understand is how she have managed to wear 323 clothes in only 96 public events.

  4. Bravo to Rania. In New York, I went through a small scale version of this. I had to remind co-workers NY had plenty of discount places and unless people were standing next to me at the register, they didn't really know how little or much something cost.

Wow all that money spent on cloth.I can understand the Jordanian people like to know, since Jordan is not a rich Country. But really no one can expect the Q to wear PJ's on Official Visits.According to this report or list Q Letizia and CP Victoria spend the least. I do must say Meghan's is way out of hands. Can anyone think how much food and medicine can be bought with such a huge amount of money and Schools being built. I know I will get pounded for this comment, but this is the way I feel. I wear Designers too but not on a daily basis. I recycle, if a comment is made about the repeat oh well I am the one paying for it not them. Everyone have a nice day and let the pounding be mild. Thank you.

    1. I think you are absolutely right. They say when a woman marries into a royal family she gets a royal makeover, incl. clothes, jewelry, etc. I read archieve articles of the Ds of Cambridge's first year wardrobe makeover as a royal, and the number was far smaller (85.000 pounds as far as I can remember.) So as we have read on many platforms Harry is madly in love and "Meghan gets what she wants". Well she knows something I dont 🤣

9:20pm: Yes, the money could feed/help many people; but then some would ask why the royal ladies don't dress better. But some of these ladies delight in their wealth and couturier "loans" and now think it's the norm. The ones who had humble beginnings should know better. Queen or not, flaunting wealth and fashion is not a good idea.

    5. @ anonymus 11:50 what was gossip in my comment? Please tell me 'cause I didn't get the point. The royal makeover is a fact. The Ds of Cambridge's wardrobe back in 2011 is a calculation by dailymail. Harry being deeply in love is a fact-or at least everybody hopes so. My comment about Meghan knowing sg I don't is also a fact 'cause I didn't catapultate myself into the BRF in a year- and will never will 😁 so don't be disapponted because that is not a good way of starting a year either 😉

And sure to that 85 000 of Catherine was also calculated her wedding gift jewels as was done to this Meghan´s amouth ;-) Catherine got at least two very valuable sets as wedding presents; diamond bracelet, earrings and ring from Charles and ruby-diamond demi parure from someone including necklace, bracelet and earrings. They must have been twice as expensive as Meghan´s jewels together.

    10. @anonymus 11:48... I accept your opinion. I think in connection with the royals we will never see th real truth. The sentence I citated (Meghan gets what she wants) is one of her old friends opinion written in a dailymail article, she is no more in contact with. She maybe jealous, I don't know. You are right in connection with dignity 'cause I am very ironic. But I always had ambivalent feelings with Meghan. I always felt she loves Harry, but she wouldn't be so devoted if Harry was an RAF pilot for instance. I know being a prince is part of Harry, but I always had and have this strange thought. Well time will tell, I hope the best 💝

The wedding dresses, the engagement photo dresses, irish tour wardrobe are not listed. If the Ralph& Russo wasn't a gift or a loan then that single dress is up to 74.000 £. So I don't know who said that this 400 budget included the jewelry, but I am not sure...

To inform anonymous MM is the royal CP with the smallest budget for clothes, and every one can see she buy the fewest new items every year. MM does not have £152 000 to spend on clothes every year. The CP couples budget for clothes, travel and other expenses to providers are around £200 000 all together.

  8. I took some property appraisal courses and there is a difference between cost and value. When the Royals wear an outfit to a high profile event, that will add to the value. We recently saw photos from an event for Queen Rania's Teachers College. She is attending to the future of the citizens of her country.

  9. I have to question the accuracy of these figures and ask how they were compiled. Yes, not disputing that Meghan's wardrobe has been super expensive, but think these figures might be inflated. And I can't see Mette-Marit in fifth place (and we regular readers of this blog view her official wardrobe frequently). Certainly Letizia, ranked here in 11th place, appears to spend far more than Mette-Marit.

    Interessant.

  11. Half of Meghan’s total was from the diamond jewelry she wore at the wedding, thought to be gifts. Also, included was the cost of jewelry that she wore and clearly owned before the wedding (personal property). Also, Catherine’s wardrobe had many McQueen outfits listed as “unknown”. The other royal ladies, not withstanding, I question the accuracy of the list.

I agree with you Sarah, I have many questions about the accuracy of this list. Especially when I have see that they have included jewellery for which they do not know the origin of whether it was a gift or the Meagan used her own money to buy them. Also why was the jewellery of the other royals not counted as well? It seamed to me to be a bit of a witch hunt towards Meghan! Also there is no way the Catherine's was that "cheap" getting same outfits in different colours has to be expensive.

      Delete
    2. Agree with you Sarah. Meghan was the only one whose gifted jewels were calculated to the sum and they were even the biggest part of the sum. Also the great number of her clothes 323 sounds really weird when she had only 96 public events. On the other hand I do not believe a second Charlene´s clothes were possible to buy at 52 000 £ or that they were only 24 pieces together.

Agree, this list is very questionable.

  12. Anonymous6/1/19 00:26

If we had money to burn we would wear expensive clothing, it's only natural - and everything is relative. Rania (almost) NEVER repeating an outfit sends the wrong message (she could learn to mix-and-match more). I'm happy they're at least trying to cool the flames on this hot issue. People should know where money is going - and "fashion" is not a very appropriate place. But all the queens/princesses do it to a degree; we expect them to look good (better than we lowlings do!).

  13. I was wondering why a number of royal women were ‘recycling’ their clothes. The Duchess of Cambridge and Crown Princess Mary, the the Crown Princess of Sweden are examples. It is a prudent measure, given these harsh times, where there is great disparity in wealth. Good for Queen Rania to clarify her clothing budget. Perhaps other female royal members should do this also, particularly the Duchess of Sussex, as the perception of extravagance does destroy reputations.

    1. I, too, like seeing them recycle their outfits or "shop their closet". Letizia is smart because she buys more separates and reworks them into new outfits. It is also a good way to take a high-end piece and pair it with a more reasonably priced piece. I think many people can appreciate the effort to look fresh and keep cost down. Once a proper wardrobe has been established, it should be easier to establish some sort of a rotation.

  14. I am not sure that this list is accurate, maybe close at best, once again lots of designers have very special prices for these clients, as it is well known that when Meghan, Catherine or Letizia (just to mention 3) wear certain outfits, they become automatic sell outs, and this is good for the industry, whether high end or low cost, these companies generate jobs, from the sales person to the delivery van, it is called economics. I find the outrage rather misplaced, most of us spend according to our means, and hopefully give to charity in the same manner, and I firmly believe that some of these people do just as well. And for those of you that are very frugal and never, ever splurge on something divine, I fervently hope that you are donating all your savings to a good cause.
    Happy 2019.

    1. Cherry Blossom, on the one hand you are right - everyone spends according to their means. One the other hand royals are not private persons like you and me. They are public persons, funded by the taxpayer to represent their countries values and tradition. So it is logic that the public watches them.
I wish you a wonderful New Year! I hope you had a great christmas time and New Years Eve! May all your wishes in 2019 come true!

    2. I'm not particularly frugal myself and certainly believe in giving to charity but I'm at a loss with why a frugal person should give all their savings to charity - surely they are as much entitled to save for the future if that is their wish, as a profligate person is allowed to splurge.

As for the royals, I agree with Coralie - they are not private people. Being in tune with the mood of your nation is part of being royal. There may be times of prosperity where splashing out is acceptable, but when your citizens are having to be cautious, royals should also be. And as much as possible, they should support the fashion industry of their nation - easy in Britain where there are many fine designers to choose from.

  15. Pure speculation! Items purchased off the rack could possibly be costed accurately, but who knows what arrangements royal ladies make with designers when they wear their garments, especially bespoke garments. What better advertising for any designer than to have Meghan or Kate, Mary or Letizia wear a garment, carry a bag etc.

  16. As many people point out online rania's statemt does not make things better. She should not use Her position to get discounts. She barely ever uses jordanian designers So this doesnt make this better. Rania is egocentric. Just recently, there were riots in the streets of amman. She never repets an outfit. She is still wasting a lot of money in clothes regardless of discounts.

“After discussions with the Royal Hashemite Court and the Office of Her Majesty Queen Rania, we have taken Her Majesty out of our tally and off of our website,” this was a statement of the website.

What rania is doing is going after people that publish the unconvinient truth about Her. People have been arrested in jordan for speeking about agains the monarchy. Sad. I used to like Her.

    ReplyDelete
  17. But have to say I do not believe that explanation that Rania´s clothes a for free and loans. I do not think her taste is so good advertisement to fashion houses.

If somebody has a huge impact to their country´s fashion industry, it is British royals, they make really 200 million £ lift to British fashion industry.

Is it ethical to borrow and get expensive gifts just because of someone's position?
We pay for our own costs, including our clothes. I can not afford new clothes every day, so I mix and combine. Its fun and allow to create new and fresh looks. You don't need designer clothes to look good. I rather invest on clothes that are made for me and timeless, than wear something just because of its label.

    2. I also don't see why royals now feel the need to wear "designer" clothes. If they had any fashion sense, or good advice, they could have clothes made by a dressmaker/tailor to suit their needs, taste and body type.

    3. Quite agree with you. Why the need to wear designer clothes? The royals should be supporting their local fashion industry. Also they do not have to be expensive.

These lists are meaningless since nobody knows what they pay for their cloths only what the cost of the clothes that are off the rack original was. We do not know what they paid or if this was a gift or borrowed. Custom made outfit that we have seen a lot on Kate and Victoria do not make the list so these lists are just stupid.
