Queen Margrethe hosted the traditional New Year's Levee

Just like every year, Danish Queen Margrethe hosts the traditional New Year reception also this year. The first reception took place at Christian VII's Palace in Amalienborg on January 3 for the Supreme Court Judges, the Royal Life Guards and the Guard House Regiments. The second reception at Christiansborg Castle was held for Foreign Diplomatic Corps, Commanders and their spouses. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark were present at the reception.

Mary's dress today is classic and beautiful …… but more an evening dress than suitable for a daytime New Year reception …… just my opinion.
2018 was not Mary's best dressed year …… too many midi-flower-dresses!

Princess Marys left hand looks like it is in a bandage. Or is it a glove on just one hand?

Ah, a better photo has been added (the last one) so I can see that it is indeed a glove. I'd have gone with shorter gloves given the dresses full length sleeves and that this is a daytime event. The cut and style of the dress is beautiful and she wears it very well.

  4. What an exquisite dress, I particularly like the cut at the waist simulating a belt, and it fits her like a glove.

  5. Mary's dress is beautiful and elegant. In the first pic it looks like a pale blue so I was disappointed it was the duller silver/grey--I think it would be amazing in a brighter colour. Likewise, I much prefer the Queen's vibrant coral from the previous evening. It is lovely to have this to enjoy when most royals are still on holiday :-)

  7. I noticed that the royals when they wear gloves, they only wear it on one hand and hold the other. I take it that is so they can shake hands with people and be more personable than shaking hands with the glove on.

    2. Some long gloves have and opening on the wrist so that the lady doesn't have to go through the complicated maneuver but simply exposes her hand leaving the" hand part" around her wrist. There are many photos of that from royals around the World;I don't understand why the Crown P. doesn't wear such type of long gloves; Makes life easier, not just for shaking hands but holding a fine glass of wine for one...

  8. Mary is so elegant and radiant here. Stunning. Hair, jewels, dress...wow.
The only issue might be that the colour makes her look pale - or that is because of the lighting.

Mary's dress is a reconstructed creation from two a piece dress/suit she wore several times in the past to this event. Mary does love to recycle/repurpose her clothes when she can. I liked the original version (if you google, etc. I'm sure you can find photos) and I like this version as well. I've noticed over the years that most of the royal ladies that attend this event tend to "bundle up" for it - long sleeves, heavy material/brocades, etc. I don't know if it's because its a day event and therefore bare arms and shoulders would brake protocol or if it's because that hall is very cold and drafty at this time of year. LOL.

Mary looks beautiful and elegant. The dress suits her a lot. I would say that another color more vibrant would be better but anyways she looks wonderful in it. And the Queen is very elegant in her way. Let´s all have a nice year 2019!

It would have been a better "match" with Queen Margrethe and CP Frederik's outfits and the event, if Mary has used the jacket together with the dress!
    Anyway, her dress is beautiful.
I miss Marie and Joachim at these 2nd and 3rd New Year - events. I thought, all in the royal family wish "Happy New Year" together to the official Denmark, diplomats and organisations, which they all are patrons for …… but no! Stange, indeed !
