Queen Margrethe's fur coat is a bit oversized …… nicely said!

This fur coat is one of Queen Margrethe's latest. She gets them as gifts from Danish fur companies on special occasions such as anniversaries and birthdays I think she has more than 10 including jackets in sealskin and shawls. Also the queens Silvia and Sonja have and use fur coats.

I find the fur coat in very bad taste. Mary looks lovely in this color blue.

I agree with both of the previous posts. The fur coat is warm and in bad taste.

  6. Ah, more pictures now. I like this dark blue dress on Mary, it's nice. I thought she has worn it before but I might be mistaken. The cut is elegant and sophisticated. It's a pity that the fabric creases a bit too much in my opinion, or is it just because the dress is very tight?

Yes, she has worn it before and I also believe this is another item that has had a couple of different incarnations. Say what you will about Mary but she gets the most bang for her buck out of her fashions. ;-)

Agreed! I know many people feel furs are animal cruelty - and in many ways I agree - however, as a meat eater and someone who wears leather shoes etc. I would feel the hypocrite for criticizing her (or any one else) for wearing fur. Besides, most (if not all) of her furs are from "back in day" (not new ones) so she may as well wear them! She can't pretend they don't exist. Just my opinion. Again, I totally understand why others may feel so strongly in the opposite opinion.

Animals keeled for furs are not the same ones you eat. Unless you eat beaver, mink and fox. Totally different story. No justification in my opinion for wearing fur if you consider yourself as a model for a country.

Some of my ancestors lived in the rural south of the US and consumed animals in which the pelts were worn so my statement still stands. Furthermore I feel (jmo) that it's even more hypocritical to place a greater value, if you will, on one animal vs another. Going by your statement it's okay to kill a cow but not a fox. How is a cow's life of less value than that of the fox? Just saying. Just like we don't have to wear fur in the modern age to stay warm we don't have to eat meat for protein ... but we do. Again, just saying. But I fear we have drifted off topic; this is a blog about fashion. So I will try to end my comments about this here.

  8. Sorry not to share your enthousiasm for this old-fashioned furcoat!!! To me it is rather a shame, unless your message was ironic.

  9. She should mothball the furs. She's ostentatious and very insensitive in flaunting the furs.

No need for mothballs, special room with cedar panelling all around is perfect to keep furs in good condition for a long time .

I’m sure Queen Margarethe has had this coat for years, and it wasn’t a crime to possess or wear one back then. She looks lovely by the way, as does Mary. Stunning attire!

Full disclosure: The Queen is one of my favorite royals. She had a difficult 2018 losing her husband of a half-century so it’s wonderful to see her smiling!

Queen Margarethe looks fine for me - it is very old style though and rather defiantly so.

A nother Reception, busy busy. Love the navy dress from Mary, very elegant and so is Frederik with all the hardware on his chest. I do like the flair of the Queens fur coat. Today she would not buy it.

OH!! Do I love this hairstyle of Mary! Awesome, stunning! So hope she will have it styled more like this in the future, rather than the "buns," that doesn't compliment her at all

  17. Oh for pete's sake. Yes, all are entitled to their opinion.
A lot of people kill their own children, but we all cry for the animals. Go figure.
I love animals, but, yes, I eat meat, and wear leather shoes.
As Anon 8:56 PM said, they are from "back in the day". Use what you have.

    1. The animals you eat, aren't foxes, beavers or minks, who are bred in cages and killed in the most cruel way.
When men killed wild animals for fur, it was to keep warm because there was no other option, and they didn't waste the meat, which it's still a main staple in human diets. In the 21st century there is no need to cover yourself in pelts to combat the weather, it's only a sign of wealth. I am not going to pass judgment on the queen wearing this awful coat, it is her business, I can only do my part.

Totally agree the coat already exist so better to be used, what I really like is how she owns it, is a big, heavy piece of cloth, but she wears it, the coat is not just hanging on her, if I make myself clear, Mary looks great indeed, but Frederick looks so aged, tired and not well kept, IMO.

  21. The Queen looks like a real Queen, can't critisize that. She owns her furry pieces not since this christmas, but for years, and she is not a young person anymore. So why should the beautiful coat just lay in front of her fireplace or in a moth crate... It makes sense in a Danish Chateau in early January.
Talking about Fashion here: She looks marvellous . Happy New Year, your Majesty!

Mary looks every inch the Royal lady.I like Queen Margarethe's old coat; a sign of wealth it might be, my friend bought a less flamboyant coat in an op shop 30 years ago and it is beautiful.
