The Duchess of Sussex visited Brinsworth House in Twickenham

On December 18, 2018, The Duchess of Sussex visited the Royal Variety residential nursing and care home Brinsworth House in Twickenham. The Royal Variety Charity, of which The Queen is Patron, assists those who have worked professionally in the entertainment industry and are in need of help and assistance as a result of old age, ill-health, or hard times. Established in 1850, the residential home accommodates up to 36 residents who are cared for by a dedicated team of nurses and care assistants.

  1. Good on her for bucking the trend and wearing normal (as opposed to maternity) clothes for as long as she can. The dress is tight to be sure, and bares a lot of skin in light of the season, but looks fine on her. I like it.

i don't understand why she does not talk to her family, at least call them and wish them a merry Christmas, that's all

    2. I understand exactly why Meghan doesn’t speak to the Markle side of her family. If they shut their mouths for 5 minutes, Meghan might consider making contact, however, they only seem to be interested in making headlines and $$$

    2. Well I am not sure! Elegance is also very much about wearing clothes adapted to the season! Looking at the pictures you wonder where she is. It gives the impression she had nothing else to wear. To me, it is a miss.

    5. Exactly what I was thinking about the stress. If the report that she was taking to Kate's staff and K told her off (because God forbid anyone else talks to them besides herself) is true Kate should get off her high horse and remember what it was like to be a new member of the royal family, and not only give Meghan a brake, but take her under her wing and show her the ropes because after all they are family, and Meghan was not a homless when she met Harry. She was a very acomplished young lady....more acomplished than Kate. The dress is a summer dress......too much skin showing for winter. But M looks beautiful.

    6. Rumours... still rumours. We do not know the situations and what is really going on, and we don't have to. I for one don't even want to believe this stuff. The tabloids are always hunting and most of the time it is based on nothing.
Leave it and await what time brings. They all have to settle again, but that's normal when a new person comes in a family. Give them time.

Anon 9:41 The subject of the messy bun has been discussed to death. At this point I think the subject is moot. It is a style that is here to stay. If you are going to criticize Meghan for wearing her hair that way, it would be nice if you stopped being Anonymous so we knew that you criticize the other women, such as Letizia and Sofia, who have worn their in the same manner. If you aren't, it is another case of Meghan bashing.

  20. The dress itself is very pretty, but as a fellow pregnant lady due around the same time as her, it’s too tight. It’s especially noticeable in the back views of the dress. Nothing wrong with wearing form fitting non-maternity dresses but only if you size up appropriately. It’s about a 1k USD dress so I get wanting to wear again later, but maybe invest in some more affordable maternity wear that flatters and can be worn during the “next” pregnancy. Fashion wise, the dress is too expensive for what it is and it looks more spring than winter.

  21. I’m trying so hard to like her style again, but she’s making it almost impossible. This is a very tight summer dress. It doesn’t flatter her at all. Out of season. This is a tottal miss for me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The dress is too tight for this stage of her pregnancy - you can see back fat (and she isn't fat) and it's squashing her bosom. That said, it's quite a pretty dress and I wouldn't mind seeing her wear it post baby.

The coat is nice, her hair is fine and she looks glowing and happy to be there.

    1. That is not back fat, that is skin.
She’s gorgeous and has the most amazing posture - head, neck, shoulders. I haven’t seen such perfect posture since Audrey Hepburn maybe! Take note, her good posture relates to her perfect facial structure... When you hold your head like Meghan, your facial features grow up and forward rather than back and down. She’s beautiful!

      Delete
    2. Well, the skin is being squeezed up and out because the dress is rather tight so it might as well be back fat...

And I didn't day she wasn't beautiful, gorgeous or didn't have good posture so not sure why you are directing these comments at me.

    8. Roslyn it's your right to be deeply religious, but some people are not.
So you can't go around pushing your beliefs on everyone just because you don't like a certain phrase or expression. It's being overly sensitive.

You can respect someone's beliefs without trying to push yours onto them.

I know this is off-topic, but I can't help thinking that you don't get my point. It is not just about sharing the same faith or pushing others to do the same, it as about RESPECT for everyone in every way. About decency and propriety. Nothing more.

  25. I just don't get the look. Winter coat, summer dress and autumn shoes? What that for? Not to mention the fact that the dress is wayy too tight on her. Especially at the bust und the back there just isn't enough fabric to cover without squeezing.

  26. El vestido es muy bonito pero en su estado le queda tan apretado que parece que las costuras van han explotar. Es tiempo que invierta en modelos de maternidad que se ajusten más a su figura que irá cambiando conforme avance su embarazo.

  27. I know she is modern. But during pregnancy she gained weight-that is normal. But plus kilos seem to go to her thigh and hip. So I think she should go back to old fashioned, A-lined maternity dresses. Furthermore she should try to work with a stylist, 'cause this dress would be much better with a black or blue shawl put on her back and slightly around her neck. Otherwise she has the best position in the monarchy. She wont be a queen, when the media frenzy is over she wont be in the center of attention. Just like Sofia of Sweeden, so if she wants to dress like back in "Hollywood" its up to her.

I do like the coat and her smile. For the 6th month of pregnancy she is carrying this baby still very high, but it is her first pregnancy.

  30. I like this dress, I also like some of Mette-Marits and Victorias "Little house in the prairie"-dresses (an expression I've learned here), but I agree that it is too tight. But her hairstyle is fine, isn't it?
As for the "media attacks", as some call it, I think Meghan is a Media Pro and should have known what re-action she causes. She often breaks the rules and she seems to reject many of the traditions the BRF stands for.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Can you remember the appearance of Letizia after her wedding with Felipe in 2004 and her first years as Princess of Asturias? Letizia was much more a Media Pro at that time than Meghan is. And do you remember the Press she got in Spain? Today, you consider her as one of the most elegant Royal and you are absolutely right. So why not give Meghan a little more time for adaptation? I think she deserves it.

  32. I thought she looked lovely. I liked the coat and dress. The gray was nice change. However, I also think the dress was too tight. Perhaps she had ordered and like most women in pregancy what fit on Saturday does not fit on Tuesday. She is glowing and exuding warmth. I watched several clips if the visit today and she was so natural and genuine. Very engaged. I think this would be a great patronage for her. I suspect the visit was to make sure this is something she might enjoy undertaking before the Queen hands it over. She couldn't leave it in better hands in my opinion.

Now there is this ~ several clips and several reporters noted that Meghan would seem to rest to hand on her bump or begin to cradle it and suddenly stop and reposition. This makes me sad to think that all the nasty remarks about her cradling have somehow made her change how she was bonding with her baby. It was said it was very noticeable. That is terrible! Why shouldn't she touch or hold her bump as she wants. Very sad.

Lastly ~ as she left she turned to the press and wished them a very Merry Christmas! The same press corp who have crucified her for just looking a different direction for the last 6 weeks. That speaks ions about CLASS and GRACE and the very spirit of the holidays in being kind!

    Brava DoS! Class act! 👏👏

    1. Agree! And I think your comment re: pregnant women "what fit on Saturday does not fit in Tuesday" is quote of the week. Sooo true! It's hard to adjust to the swift body morphing. Also, some women feel constantly hot while pregnant and can't stand heavier clothing--even in winter.
And Meghan being gracious to the press after their treatment of her this past month is very impressive.

      Delete
    2. Agree absolutely.

    3. I agree. She looks fine even if the dress is a bit tight. But her charming nature is the nicest thing shining through in these photos. It's difficult to understand the amount of negative press she receives.

    4. I had thought the same thing about her body changing size and shape in a few days time. I would imagine her outfits are planned out well in advance, and as any woman who has been pregnant knows, her body is on its own schedule.

A very sad comment about her cradling her bump. Every person that has made a snarky comment about that should be ashamed. They should also remember Meghan could be having discomfort. When you have always been very thin and suddenly get bigger, the body has a hard time adjusting. I went through that. The baby felt like a lot of weight to carry. Whatever the reason, leave her alone to have the pregnancy she wants to have. It is a private time that is being spied on and judged by the world.

Nursing and retirement homes are often kept warmer than normal, for the comfort of the residents. Perhaps the Duchess was advised at short notice to wear something cooler, and this was the best she could find. Not her best look, but the Duchess more than makes up for it with her charm and obviously authentic interest in others.

It is OK to disagree with her fashion choice, I myself think that the dress is a little too tight, which is a rather unusual for her, since generally and before her pregnancy she tended to wear garments a little loose for my taste, however I won't speculate why, or make a correlation with her character or values, because that would be ridiculous and I don't feel qualified to analyze and disect this woman. You know it's possible to be critical, and kind, sharp and fair, and above all avoid cyber bullying. Maybe we should try a little uplifting if only in the spirit of being positive towards our fellow humans.

  38. The positives---I think the coat is lovely and really suits her, the shoes are great--colour and style, her hair is neat and looks great. The colour and neckline of this dress are lovely and like a number of people above, I hope we see her wearing it later when it fits her. I also noticed the "back fat" which is crazy when she's so slim but just proves that the dress is too tight. While size changes in pregnancy even from day to day as Diane says above, you know that a looser fitting dress will always do--the claret one she wore recently was a perfect example. I nearly passed over this post for fear of more "celeb" style bump clutching photos so delighted that she's avoided this today---maybe she is listening to the advice given. Well done, D of S.

  43. Bravo to Meghan! Still glowing, looking happy and enthusiastic, even after everything that is happening around her person.
And I do like the dress, but more for summer; and it's too tight. But indeed, like someone else commented, it can be very hot in those houses. Also knowing from experience ;-) But she looks still elegant.
@Diane: Wow, unbelievable that she was so kind and genuine towards the press. A lot of people wouldn't be able to do so!!

  45. She is a lovely woman and is glowing with her pregnancy. I must say though that this dress was not well thought out or maybe it fit last time she tried it on but, as was mentioned in one of the comments, a pregnant woman’s size can change in a couple of days. It looks soooo tight and possibly uncomfortable.
