    2. Yes, I agree, Meghan is elegantly and classically dressed. But I disagree with you that she is the only one who looks "classy, chic and elegant". Kate's coat, hat, purse and shoes are absolutely exquisite -- repeat, exquisite! And the Queen, too, gets top marks for her Christmas Day coat and hat.

  9. It is so nice seeing the family together. It brought a smile to my face seeing the Cambridges and Sussexes together. Meghan wearing an open coat leads me to believe that she is running very warm with her pregnancy. Kate is perfection. Before there is one comment about Meghan taking Harry's arm, Eugenie is holding Jack's hand. James does look cold! Louise's legs are blending in with her shoes, and I would have loved to have seen her wearing boots instead. The Queen is her usual polished self.

    2. Funny how Camilla has been missing in action from events where Kate is present since Kate laughed (along with William) at her silly hat at Harry's wedding...she might have a cold...but she has been nowhere close to Kate since the wedding. The woman might not have great taste in hats but Will and Kate need not be so obvious about their disdain for her. Sophie and Megan look the best.

I missed Camilla there today, maybe she is still ill.Liked the red dress coat on Eugene, but a little too much embellishment, nice color and she and Jack looked happy. I believe Beatrice coat was a bit too tight?, I didn't like Autumn;s coat, but the girls looked very nice. Now this is only MO, Oh yes I liked the Queens dress and coat not fond of the feather on her hat, but overall great. 3. Agree with comment on the flapping coat. I wonder if it is an American thing--the sloppy coats style? My middle son gave, based in US, brought me a jacket for Christmas which is "meant to be worn open" I love the jacket but have added a belt to make it comfortable and smarter!

      Delete
    4. "Messy", "flapping", and now "sloppy". Aren't you full of holiday cheer! I don't recall seeing this much made of other royal woman wearing a coat open even when they are not pregnant. No, it is not a US thing. Did you consider that she is warm? Did you consider that her bump is too big to button the coat properly? Did you consider if she wears a coat she has just worn, she will receive criticism? Yet, if she shows up with a new maternity coat, she will be ctiticized for spending too much money on clothes. Meghan will never win with some of you. How lucky you are not to have to endure gossip and ridicule on a daily basis, especially during pregnancy.

Maxima makes some interesting choices when choosing a wardrobe. Excuse me if I have missed it, but I do not recall anyone asking if it is an "Argentinian" thing. Why is Meghan's American heritage a "thing", as it was stated above? Yes, AnnieM, coats can be made to be worn open. If you find designs like this so dreadful, I am sure the design houses all over Europe would love to hear your expert opinion on the subject. There is room for all.

      Delete
    5. Chardonn8r, you insist on your opinion. Why don't you let others have their opinion?

      Delete
    6. To all of you who can not agree with Meghan coat. We DO wear this way coats in Europe it is nothing unusual. Meghan is not waiting for the bus at the bus stop in blizzard she is just walking short distance to church.

      Delete
    7. Personally - and I'm British - I see absolutely nothing wrong with how Meghan is wearing her coat, nor do I think it is indicative of being American. I see plenty of women walking around London like that every day. And she's probably feeling a bit warmer than usual, plus it really wasn't that cold on Christmas Day.

      Delete
    8. Coralie, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. Absolutely. I am pointing out that Meghan is singled out, something that really cannot be argued. The "messy" word is thrown around quite often with Meghan, but other royal ladies are not badgered like she is if they wear their hair in a similar style. How can she look "sloppy" when the model above is shown wearing the coat the same way? Maybe it is time to take Victoria Beckham to task for not styling HER model in HER coat to meet the standards of this board. And I apologize if I consider it a huge exaggeration when I see the descriptor "flapping". I didn't see a single flap. I can't even see hair blowing.

Lastly, why is the fact that she is American being brought up? Why? It has been more common than not for royals to marry someone from another country (hence all the inbreeding of the past). Why is Meghan singled out? That is the point I make. Like her fashion, don't like her fashion. At least be fair about it without letting personal opinions (about a person none of you will EVER meet let alone EVER know) take over. If open coats look bad to you, don't single out Meghan, call out each lady for not closing her coat.

      Delete
    9. Thank you, Chardonn8r. You responded very eloquently. I was taken aback at AnnieM's snide comment about the gift she received, but did not respond this time as calling out the underlying national snobbery and constant targeting of Meghan gets tiring. An "American thing" to have "sloppy coat style"? Good grief. And thank you to Annonymous 2:31 for the European perspective.
There are too many examples to go over here. One item that several posters have pointed out is that other couples holding hands or putting an arm around each other were not (and are never) criticized for those actions: look at overall photos of Zara and Mike, Peter and Autumn, and even William and Catherine these days.
I do appreciate this blog very much and wish you all a Happy New Year and many kind blessings in 2019.

    10. I just ran across a picture of the Queen when Charles was still in shorts. Her coat was open! Horrors! I also have another one of her in the 50s sitting on a plane working with her skirt hiked up showing more leg than I have ever seen on any of the ladies we mainly focus on now. So many made-up ideas about how they should look, act, etc.

    12. Chardonn8r, on this blog have been many comments about Stephanie (Luxembourg) and her black pants. Why is she singled out? Why?
There are many comments about Victorias tidy bun. Why is she singled out?
Also a lot of comments about Maxima and her bold dresses. Why is she singled out?
Or Jordanias Rania, who seems never to wear a dress twice. Why is she singled out?
Or the ladies of the japanese court, who in the opinion of some people here wear boring european clothes instead of kimonos. Why are they singled out? And so on....

      Delete
    13. Oh, dear Coralie...you are missing the point. You are mentioning ladies that are pretty much the only ones that do what they do. On the rare occasion another lady does pull her hair into a severe bun, there is usually a comment comparing her to Victoria. Rania is the only one who does not repeat her outfits. I am sure if someone else started doing the same thing, a comparison would be made. In most cases, Maxima's choices are uniquely her own. Should she find herself with a sister in fashion, I cannot see anyone here letting that pass. When she did recently have a similar jumpsuit as Mathilde, it was immediately noted and the comparisons were made. As for the Japanese Imperial family, who should they be compared to? I can see if Europeans tried to wear kimonos, you would have an argument. Until that day comes, I fear that argument is moot. These are primarily single cases.

In the case of Meghan, nearly every issue (color she is wearing, style of dress, shoes, stockings, amount of jewelry, hat, country she is from, hand holding, open coat...) can be applied to others, often at the same event or within the same week, but usually isn't. If Meghan looks like she is dressed for a funeral for wearing navy as someone said above, the same comment should have been applied to Beatrice as she was in navy as well, and possibly Zara as she was in a darker blue. If it is true that there is a color dress code for each event or time of year, it should have been noted that the Queen was not properly dressed for Christmas. Her dress and coat would have been better suited to Easter. Yet no one felt the need to criticize the Queen. Let's just be consistant.

As a case in point, Meghan has been criticized for wearing olive. A lot. I did a search for "olive" for this blog on Google. It seemed the easiest to add up. "Breaking protocoI" and all the other nonsense that comes up here would take too long. I read the comments and made a list below.

      Ladies in olive
February 19~Letizia in olive cape dress, no negative comments on color*
May 28~ Charlene in olive coveralls, one negative comment on color
November 10~ Mathilde in olive evening top and skirt, no negative comments on color*
December 16~Catherine in olive blazer, no negative comments on color**
      *Positive comments/raves on outfit.

      Meghan wearing olive
July 9 ~Louis' baptism. 10 negative comments on color.
October 16~In Sydney. 5 negative comments on color.
October 27~Invictus Closing Ceremony. 3 negative comments on color.
Note--Negative comments are proportionate to the amount of comments for each event. I excluded all negative comments about the style of the dress alone.

There is a bias against Meghan. I am leaving this alone now. Maybe the personal attacks will stop in the new year. One can always hope. My best to all. Happy New Year.

    14. Chardonn8r, it is no point of arguing about that. There are people who like Meghan style and there are people who no matter how well she is dressed won't like her.It is not about her style or her color of dresses. Of course it is about her background .If she was from aristocratic family and most of all English people would love her no matter how she would be dressed. But like you said hopefully people will stop attacking her in the years to come.

      Delete
    15. I really do think you have a point, Chardonn8r. There are a lot of things that Meghan does and other royals as well, but Meghan often gets the negative attention and reactions. Like it's never good, whatever she does or wears. I think she is trying very hard and it takes time to move from a total different world into another even more different and hard world.
Just like the cradling of her bump. I was also negative in advance, but realized there will always be something to hunt on. It can be not what we are used to, but perhaps we simple should get used to her!, and to her style and way of coping with things! She is just married, pregnant and happy, trying to find her way in a golden cage. Is there any human body on earth so perfect that they won't make mistakes? Of course not!! Everyone makes mistakes or does something they regret later. Criticism is always around every corner when you are a royal... and no one here on earth is perfect.
Give the poor woman time, instead of bashing and putting even more pressure on her.

  27. All the family look very festive. Sophie's coat is one of her loveliest, in me opinion. Sophie's son, however, looks extremely uncomfortable and not warm enough. Her daughter's outfit is slightly off, too. It's all about proportions. It is not easy to dress a teenager, but Louise is quite tall already and can wear more grown-up clothes, like low heels. She often wears what I would call little girl's length dresses(which is different from a mini), even couple of inches longer would look better on her. I also wonder about Meghan's bag. On most of the pictures and video she carries it by the strap in front of her and it doesn't seem comfortable. Kate's piece is quite beautiful, with that bow on the back. Everyone looks quite nice, as expected, and true to their usual styles.

  30. I adore Catherine's outfit-it is classy. elegant, a lovely festive colour and just about perfect. Of the various kokoshnik hats she has worn this one suits her best. And i just love those beautiful red shoes. I'm not a fan of the Queen's outfit today--I prefer her in more vibrant colours and the contrast trim on the coat is not smart, in my opinion. While I love the hat and the coat and dress are smart, I think Meghan looks as if she is dressed for a funeral or a memorial service. Princess Anne is one of the winners for me--I love the coat and hat, as I do for Sophie--I especially like her hat. Zara's coat is smart with a beautiful colour of hat. I like Autumn's coat and hat combo--I think. I'm not 100% certain about the hemline and whether it flatters or not. I like Beatrice's coat but the less keen the hat and sadly, though I really like Eugenie, her outfit is a miss for me--I think the coat is too tight, too embellished and the headband looks like the ones that cleaners use to keep their hair off their faces. More winners than losers, though and lovely to see thaem all together.

  31. Looking back at this post, the picture I like the most is the last one, with Meghan patting Kate's back or gently leading her. It is especially beautiful because these months are covered in negative stories and bad rumours. But this picture shows kindness, warmth and affection!

    1. Agree. It's a lovely moment that says a lot.
If you analyze every report of the supposed "rift", none are substantiated by anything other than a nameless "source". In other words, the entire pile of reports on this topic could be Invented by tabloids and websites looking for hits.

    2. I fully agree and at the same time however I am aware that our society is very much driven by communication initiatives. I hope these gestures are sincere.

  32. Reading the comments,I can't get over the amount of money Meghan spent on her bag $2,312 ???? What on earth!!! Not what I thought s so called humanitarian would do with that amount of money

    1. That is nothing unusual .
Good bags cost plenty of money and they are not for just one year. She can afford such a bag . Besides that people are earning their living making such a bags.

    2. It is not selfish to love yourself, to take care of yourself and to make your happiness a priority - it is necessary. From time to time you can make a present by yourself.

  33. Hello Everyone, I hope you had a cheerful Christmas, and the Royals had as well. The Sandrigam event doesn't make our life so easy. I could make a positive comment about most/all their respective outfits, even if some are more appealing to me than others. I also regret little James was freezing. I hope his parents take better care next year.
The last item which came up in the comments was Meghan's handbag. Indeed quite nice, "the thing to remember" about this event, but honestly I don't know how to solve the controversy : buy a remarquable design item whatever the cost is, or rather spend most of that money on charity and humanitarians, particularly at Christmas. No I don't know.

    1. It can be done both (and usually is), to buy expensive handbag and to donate to charity .
This way everybody will be happy .

  34. And all the other handbags... Autumn Philips handbag, Duchess Catherines, Sarah Tindall, Princess Anne?

    1. I don't think anyone had in mind the royal ladies would no longer have handbags. I think some of them were more modest.

  35. I love all of the coats the colours and the styles are so pretty. It is good that Her Majesty has her family around her at Christmas. James probably didn't want to wear a coat,it is not cool.My friends and I fell over laughing when we saw the price of Meghans handbag;we could buy a good bull for that money(we are farmers),it is all about priorities;handbag one upmanship. I like Meghan.

  36. Why some people are so surprise about Meghan's handbag. Many women are spending $ 800 - $1000 on bags and it is nothing extra ordinary.
Good designer handbags cost money and many can afford to have something you would fall in love with.

  37. As a point of reference, can we get the prices of all the other ladies' handbags, and outfits, not just Meghan's

  38. Well let me see as an economist; I will add up the cost of all of the outfits;hat, coat, dress, shoes stockings, handbags;it is an obscene amount of money. It is about choices;I would prefer to spend the money on things other than clothes. We would complain if the royals wore the same clothes every day we know they recycle clothes;Princess Ann is the best person at that. The Royals don't spend as much as the Hollywood throw away society.

  40. At this event, and other solo events, the cost of Meghan's outfit is always reported, and other royal ladies' outfits' cost is rarely reported. To be fair, if we decide to report the cost of Meghan's outfits, shouldn't we also report the cost of the other royal ladies' outfits' costs? Otherwise it seems as though she is the only one in this party spending on outfits.

    1. Enhancing transparency is always a progress, particularly if just one is sometimes slightly the target of criticism. There are royals who feel disadvantaged in comparison to Duchess of Sussex, probably more than two persons who would be glad to participate on that publicity. It is a little like caring for spinach: no one is against it in principle because it is good for you.

The cost of other English royals is reported in many other outlets. There is also a chart published by many sites that shows royal spending for clothes 2018. Meghan is over 400 lbs, while Mary is a distant second at 92 lbs. So, yes, I am all for reporting on the costs. It would shock many.

  41. It looks like a women is to blame for everything. March 8 is International Women's Day, more needed than ever, as long as women should make the lives of others more beautiful and Christmas gifts are brought by a child or a man.
