  1. Letizia really hits it out of the park here, imo. Simple, elegant, every piece a building block to a wonderfully regal statement. The dramatic eye makeup would be too much for some occasions, but is absolutely right for this one.

Peng Liyuan looks lovely in her flowy black and white and pretty hairstyle.

  2. Stunning!!! I must admit, at first, I wasn’t a fan of Letizia, is I’m head ove heels for her! she’s a real Queen 👑

  3. You look at her and just one word come to mind, La Reina.

  4. Gorgeous velvet on Letizia and the love the sneak peek of her shoes. Wish we could see more of them.

    1. That's interesting - the shoes are the only thing I don't like here!

  5. It's difficult to go beyond the tiara but Letizia's dress is too dull for me--she has been wearing a lot of sombre dresses lately ---I hope it's not contagious. I prefer Madame Xi's dress which is both elegant and suits her beautifully.

  6. It sounds trivial, but I think they are the most attractive royal couple of Europe. She looks stunning without to much "pomp"...

  7. Both ladies again look fabulous - Letizia's dress is both simple but dramatic and makes a real statement with her jewellery. I also love Peng Liyuan's gown which is very striking and flows beautifully.

  8. Amazing dress for Letizia. With tiara like that, this sleek, minimalist gown is the perfect choice. Ms Pengs dress is ok as well, but her hairstyle makes her look older. She is only 56 years.

    1. Wow, I would not have guessed 56. You are right. This hairstyle makes Ms Pengs look much older.

    2. Mrs. Peng is a renowned Asian opera singer. She was famous and a star in her own right before she married the President.

  9. I'm not sure I like this tiara on Letizia. It has such large scale and she is such a petite woman.

    1. I understand you. It's almost too big for her indeed, but on the other hand, it suits her and it's perfect for this occasion

    2. The former queens who have worn it, weren't taller..

    5. Surprising. She has been heavily criticised for wearing miniskirts, short shorts, no sleeves…. She is the most “uncovered” Queen ever, and the only one can be without losing elegance and sophistication. On this occasion, she is dressed in black to honour the chinese delegation for reasons of protocol. She always shows a high sense of international courtesy, a touch of refinement that not everyone understand, apparently.

  12. Letizia can do no wrong, but this visit introduced us to another beautiful lady. Mrs. China is elegant, has fantastic posture and a lovely smile. The black and white silhouette dress is a great choice.

    2. So true! Mrs. Peng is a lovely and very stylish woman. She is/was a famous Chinese Opera singer before she became the Presidents wife. She is always immaculately dressed on her local and foreign tours. I see her appearing regularly on some other blogs I follow and she rarely ever makes any fashion missteps. Her clothes are always elegant and well fitting.

    3. I agree! Mrs. Peng has looked wonderful throught the visit. She has a Western flavor to her style not always seen with Asian leader's wives. She also has a presence all her own.

Letizia looks gorgeous. Her column dress suits her. I am not sure why dark colors bother some so much, but black will never go away. She has accessorized perfectly, the grand tiara working well with such a simple dress. Kudos to both lovely women.

Black is the color of etiquette, or was, in Spain for many centuries ... and in the rest of the world, they copied it. The black has always been identified with classic and elegant because the Spanish empire imposed that color to the rest of the world.

  13. Both ladies, again, with different styles but great looks.
I prefer Letizia look, much more modern, simple and amazing jewels (I love those bracelets).

  14. I really like her dress, hair and the stunning tiara. It's a bit dark overall, but not disturbing or annoying. The dress is very elegant and she really can pull it off.

  15. Letizia sure looks regal, but I must say that Peng Liyuan looks more beautiful and balanced to me. This is both because of the more becoming colour (bland and white instead of Letizia´s all black), and because she has the better silhouette. Letizia´s dress is too narrow to provide the type of presence this tiara requires, and the tiara therefore looks heavy and comically large on her, overpowering her narrow column silhouette. The fact that the dress is black only further aggravates this imbalance. A more visible colour would have helped somewhat.

  17. I think this tiara is too big for Letizia's head!

    1. Would you say too that the Luxemburg Empire tiara and the Braganza tiara, both enormous, are too big for Great Duchess Maria Teresa's head? Of course you wouldn't. Letizia wears the Queen Maria Cristina's tiara as if she had worn it all her life.

      Delete
    2. Too big? Not! She is the Queen, therefore all of the tiaras fit perfectly. A hairdo with even distribution on the sides would have created a better balance...but she 'owns' it at this event.

    1. Couldn't disagree more with your style statements. The president's wife was wearing a dress that looked more like a housecoat full of leaves and flowers resembling a Christmas tree, however this time she was coiffed to perfection, which is hardly ever the case. I don't hate Ms Peng Liyuan dress, she looks correct, but in my opinion is boring and forgettable, not to mention that it sort of reminds me of a panda''s fur, please take note that I am not talking about her, just the dress.
Queen Letizia looks regal and beautiful, simple clean cut velvet dress, to give all the importance to the tiara, and that is how you do it, without going overboard, and taking into consideration that her guests come from a country where royalty is not precisely " the thing" (history of the Chinese regime)
Respect to the size of the tiara, I think it looks perfect on her.

    2. I agree with you regarding the Spanish president's wife's dress. It looked like it was fashioned from upholstery material. I thought it was very unbecoming. Queen Letizia wanted her diadem to be the star and she achieved that by repeating a very elegant and simple gown. The Chinese president's wife looked very nice. He gown might not have been the latest fashion trend, but it fit her well, it was classic, and she wore a double string of pearls with it to very good advantage.

    3. The style of the gown of the president's wife is okay, the problem lies in the size of the repeat pattern of the gold leaves. She should have stayed away from giving a wink to the visitors and the color red to avoid comparisons. This lady has replaced an older person who preferred not to attract attention and is facing the QL syndrome, ...a lot of criticism for being different. To break a spear for her, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and she will get better as time goes by. The handsome arm candy is a +.
