Duke and Duchess of Sussex attend the Royal Variety Performance

On November 19, 2018, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended The Royal Variety Performance 2018 held at the Palladium Theatre in London, England. The Royal Variety Performance takes place every year in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, of which The Queen is Patron. The money raised helps entertainers throughout the UK in need of help and assistance as a result of old age, ill-health, or hard times. (The Duchess of Sussex wore a new strapless top by Safiyaa)

    1. its hard to tell gender from size of bump.

A dress instead of a top would have been more flattering to her bump, and color please its a variety performance.
i like the maternity dress Kate wore last year sparkling sky blue.

  2. This is terrible, she does not have what it takes

    1. Don't be silly. She has already shown that she 'Has what it takes'. If you do not like her then scroll by. Stop with the negativity.

    2. I just have to say that if we are going to say Meghan doesn't have what it takes based on her dress/clothes then most of them don't have it either!
MM >Little House on the Prairie
Maxima > giant bugs giant over the top hats and that hair
      Stephanie > black pants
      Kate > sometimes dowdy
Letizia > the crop pants (at times)
Monaco ladies > gothic, crazy culture

But they do so much more than what the clothes represent. Meghan showed everyone that she 'has what it takes' over the last year! Plus that tour!
Diana and Catherine have worn off the shoulder dresses. So has Princess Margaret and THE QUEEN. This is NOT a formal State occasion.

I wish some folks would read up on protocol. What is what and what is NOT.

      She is fine!
I personally am not a huge fan of this. It looks a little 1950 bathing suit to me. But that doesn't mean I think she doesn't "have it".

She is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't.

Thinking of the clothes only and saying she doesn't have it is VERY superficial.

      JMHO

    3. Everyone had to learn and she learns it too. She looks cute, but I think she needs her own hairdresser.

    4. I wouldnt say she is doesnt have what it takes but this is not apropriate for a gala event. Neither it look good on a pregnant woman. Very cheap Hollywood if u ask me. However I will wait and see.

    5. And you do? She is lovely, friendly and seems to be quite approachable.

    6. Agree with you, Jean.

    7. Diane Brown, okay, we know she is yours HRH, from all your previous created ## ...... but everyone has different perceptions of style. Personally, I think Meghan's is often more glamorous than stylish royal, but that's her (chosen) style! Accepted!

    8. Diane, I agree with you about all the royals. Catherine has exceptional taste, and is growing into a style of her own which is nice to see. This should not be a place to put individuals down, but to comment in a positive manner, or comments that are constructive, rather than just bash someone.

    9. i agree with you too, it seems like a top and skirt. the top does go well with bump.

    10. I´m quite a bit shocked to read this. She did no wrong to anybody. She cames from a different culture, from a different background in many ways and is working by far to much to please everyone. She takes to much work, instead she should go to swimming, buying stuffed animals for their baby with her friends or Harry.

      Delete
    11. Anon 5.50 she is not my HRH # #???
I just feel she has and is often treated badly due to all issues we have discussed in the past. I would feel the same if it was any of them.
But it is not. No one ever talks about any of the others as much as they have Meaghan. It is not just here but many places. If you want to see some real nasty remarks go to Twitter. It is really distasteful behavior by grown ups.

As I said... it is JMHO

That said. This is not a fav of mine. But she does 'have it'

    12. I would certainly hope that the job of royalty is about far more that what is worn.

    13. Certainly she does. Her majesty approves. And if you were to look in a less than superficial and subjective way, you would be clearly convinced too Jean. Did you bother reading about her work ethic and how staff at the Kensington palace is amazed at the hours she puts into coming up with new ideas and getting them done?

Once you put a little more effort into finding facts before judging, I will take your opinion with some interest.

  3. The Duchess was so lovely with the little flowergirl (no pics :-()and as well with these young man (who are they?). I quite like her outfit very much but not her hair.
In the begining it was tidy, but later on ..

  4. This dress is ridiculous, and tacky...I’m impressed no one told her on her way out. BIG miss for me. I’m sorry

  5. Not a flattering dress.
Reminds me of something a mother of the bride would wear to a wedding.

  6. Horrible outfit. Come on Meg, you have a great sense of style, burn this dress immediately. I hope my eyes won’t see this......again!

  7. This outfit is a complete miss for me. Not only does it not look good on her, but it looks too casual for a Black-tie evening event. The thin halter 'string' cheapens the look for such an event, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Do not care for this top at all, reminds me of a Hawaiian shirt or bathing suit. The clumps of hair hanging down are untidy and not attractive. Long skirt is fine and appropriate, would have preferred a different top.

    ReplyDelete
  9. This two piece outfit is a miss in MO. This strap top somehow makes it look cheap, with a wrap or short jacket it would have looked better, like I said only MO.

  10. The Duchess looks very lovely, happy, and glowing. I love her dress very much.
Happy six months anniversary to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

  11. This is an ugly dress. It's a matronly circa 1980's look.I just... I dont know how else to say it.

  12. It's the black ribbon what hurts the eyes, nothing else...

  13. My mother had a bathing suit like this in the 1950s. Not a good look. And the hair is untidy. Not a catastrophe, but not a good look either.

  14. It doesn't work this outfit with her figure, the top looks cheap.

  15. I´m surprised to see so many people strongly disliking the outfit. I don´t think it´s her best ever, but it´s perfectly fine. My only thought was that people should wear coats in november, even if it´s for a 50m walk from car to entrance. A wrap would have worked, too.
I can understand the black ribbon, but it is a bit unfortunate that it went up a bit. Clearly due to the growing belly, which to me means this wasn´t the best choice for her pregnant body. But then again - nothing really feels perfect at her stage.

  16. Meghan "has it" big time, just like Sofia or Stephanie. "It" does not come with the clothes. And luckily so, because this was not one of Meghan's best moments.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think the duchess want look original but in pregnant woman look different. For me Catherine maternity look was better, elegant. But be yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Maternity clothes are cut differently and wearing a larger size in non-maternity clothing is usually ill fitting. The top does not flatter her at all because it does mot nip in at the waist as demonstrated on the model. The sequins and added strap at the neckline emphasis a frounded cylindrical shape.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I quite like this ensemble. My only quibble, is the thin straps. If they'd been a little thicker, it would have looked more evening attire, rather than beachwear attire. But wow, how far along is she ? She's rather due earlier than mentioned, or maybe, just maybe there be double joy !

  20. I think a lot of criticism expressed is widely exagerated. They are attending a variey performance not a gala event. When she wears expenses clothes she is also criticised.

    1. This has nothing to do with how much the garment costs. ( by the way is a surprising high price for that) it has to do with taste and fit, Meghan has wore Zara dresses and had looked impeccable.

  21. For haters you can never do everything right. If she is dressed perfectly, she will still be beaten.
For me she had a perfect evening dress, elegant and comfortable for the expectant mother.
I love her modern and minimalist style and I'm looking forward to more beautiful outfits.

  23. When I heard The Duchess give her first speech in her as a Royal I am sure she has “what it takes”. As a graduate of Northwestern University she is articulate and engaging. Definitely an asset to the RHE. Maybe I have missed it, but I have never heard Dichess Katherine given a speech.

    1. You've missed it. At least half a dozen times - possibly more. She isn't the most gifted speaker but she has worked to improve. And yes, she has a university degree.

      Delete
    2. I’m terrible sorry but you can’t compare this two woman, Meghan has all the experience and skills to speak in public because of her career choices. As for Kate she’s a wonderful more reserved speaker as well, she had to learn this skills

  24. Royalty fan

People let's give her time, see how she will blossom, my mother told us, her children, how she blossomed with most of her pregnancies. I'm sure her maternity wear will improve, as her tummy will get bigger

    1. I agree. Kate had 15 years to learn. I'm sure Meghan will not need so much time.

    2. In contrast to Catherine, Meghan does not start at zero. She is in her late thirties and media-savvy, due to her former job.
Meghan has proven at some events that she can look ladylike, elegant and appropriate (and have tidy hair), but here this is not the case.

    3. Well said Coralie.

    4. I agree with you Coralie. Exactly my thoughts.

  25. I think this is cute and playful outfit, just right for variety performance.

  26. I think Meghan should try for a different hairstyle ,
those untidy bits at the side are a distraction .
Otherwise she has a lovely face ,
& is coping with a pregnancy in public

    1. I cringe when I see her tucking them behind her ears!

      Delete
  27. I don't think she has what it takes either. If this is the best she can do with all the money and people to advise her then IMO it doesn't cut the mustard. I'm not being negative either. All can have a say some will be against the look some for and Diane I've read some quite negative comments on others from you over the years!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. omg, is she on her way to the beach again?
I really don't like this combination for this occasion.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Meghan has not a lovely face, not ugly but not so cute as she may think she is.
Her dresses.....oh dear what she needs help.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I imagine with a first pregnancy it is quite difficult to dress a quickly changing body. Her bump has grown quite big already. This is not my favorite dress, it would have been better in the original full patterned gown style.
