| On September 3, 2018, Queen Mathilde took her children, that is, Princess Eleonore and Prince Gabriel to Sint-Jan-Berchmanscollege in Brussels on the first school day. Prince Gabriel is starting on the fourth year of secondary school, while his sister, ten-year-old Princess Eléonore is in the fifth year of primary school. Prince Emmanuel is no longer enrolled at Berchmanscollege with his siblings - instead attending the Eureka school in Kessel-Lo. (Last week, Crown Princess Elisabeth travelled to the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales to study at a private sixth form college). |
Why are they educated in Dutch (or Flemish)? I'm sure they speak French at home.

حذفRight, I couldn't very well see Paola speaking Flemish. Or the Swedish Astrid. They both had to learn French, that was difficult enough. I left Belgium 62 years ago, German wasn't an official language then, although we had to learn it in high school, reading and writing in Gothic, no less. My mother was Flemish, my father 'Bruxellois'. I didn't like Flemish much either, even though it was my mother tongue and I went to Flemish school until right after WWII.
