  1. Jorge Zorreguieta held high political office as Vicesecretary (1976-1979) and later as Secretary of Agriculture (1979-1981) in the General Videla's cabinet. Previously Mr.Zorreguieta had actively participated in the military coup against the democratic Government of the Presidenta Maria Estela Martínez. During the military dictatorship Argentina suffered a systematic violation of human rights and tens of thousands of Argentinian citizens were unlawfully detained, tortured and assassinated in the sinister Escuela de Mecánica de la Armada and other military prisons. Many of their corpses were never found. Mr. Zorreguieta's involvement has been thoroughly documented by the historian Michiel Baud in his book "El padre de la novia. Jorge Zorreguieta, la sociedad argentina y el régimen militar" published in 2002 in Buenos Aires by the prestigious publishing house Fondo de Cultura Económica. He will be mourned by his family but by nobody else.

    1. Fully agree with your fact based comments. Zorreguieta was not a good man.

    2. For that reason he was banned from his daughters wedding. As for that wedding: the author Leon de Winter said something sarcastic about Maxima and Willem. I am not going to repeat it because I don't want Ms Electra to get into trouble with this wonderful blog.

    3. To how many generation you want to punish him? He is still Maxima´s father and kids grandfather.

    4. Yes, he was a husband, father and grandfather to someone. And so were many of the people who "disappeared".

  2. Yes, it's not logical or reasonable to think that he didn't know what was going on, even if you might believe he took no direct part in it, but still a father's death is a father's death. Fortunately Maxima is nothing like her father.

  3. Such sorrow on a parent's death, my sympathies. It feel s intrusive and insensitive, though,
to be seeing this from afar at such a private event.
On a "fashion note:" it was a nice surprise to see the princesses with their hair in a top knot.
They look like young ladies, not overgrown children.

  4. On a fashion note: I'm so pleased to see K.W.A. with a beard. Did he speak to C.P.F. ? Love the scruff on both of them.
