On May 2, 2017, Queen Silvia of Sweden attended the opening of new building of the Princess D. Amelia Hospital (Hospicio Princesa Dona Maria Amélia) in Funchal, Madeira island, Portugal. The Queen also visited the Funchal Botanical Garden.
