I also find Prince Emmanuel the spitting image of his grandfather King Albert. Princess Astrid looks very sad in these photos I think. Wonder if anything is wrong? It looks like she is about to cry.
I think there is a great resemblance between princess Elisabeth and her great-grandmother the late Queen Astrid of Belgium, born a princess of Sweden, who became the wife of King Leopold III.
Thank you Iris. Pictures are worth a thousand words typically but sometimes they fall short. Ms. Electra, do you know of any links to video of the event?
I agree Lizzie! Is Princess Astrid unwell? Her jacket is large but nice. I sure hope she isn't sick! The children look great. I am not a fan of Mathilde's pantsuit.
Well, I see a woman in her pajamas, two boys and their father in old fashioned non-fitting suits, two girls painted in red and a woman who I don't know, but who seems to suffer severe pain. The christmas tree looks imressive, so does the great festive hall, the best in this picture are the beautiful antique ligth lusters. I would love to say anything better, because it's Christmas time, but I can't.
Yes, I can say something better. We can't see much of Crown Princess Elisabeth, but what I see gives me hope for the future. A happy and blessed Christmas to everyone!
I don't really like the pantsuit - too much of the glittery material. The top with black pants or a skirt would have been more elegant. The children look very stylish. I agree that Astrid looks very sad, or tired or unwell.
How pretty all four children are, OK I admit that girls wear a lot of red, but that doesn't really bother me that much, I'm just stunned that the youngest wears a dress with short sleeves - and she is the only one in the hall as much as I can see.
Lovely family. And Elisabeth is turning into a lovely young lady. As for Mathilde´s outfit - too much. Too much of the same pattern. (And most patterned trousers are dubious anyway, unless subtle needle stripes.) The top is lovely, and it would have really shone with some black trousers. And as a last thought: I can´t understand why photographers don´t react to people standing in the wrong place. It bothers my eyes a lot to see the youngest daughter totally squished there inbetween her brothers while there a huge gap next to Phillippe in the second row. Why not space people evenly to create a more harmonious photo?
Thank you for the video! It is easier to see Elisabeth who is a very composed and attractive young lady. All the children are very well-behaved. A lovely family. It's still mystifying why Astrid seems so sad and /or sour. As Marie said, if there was a problem she should probably have not attended.

DeleteLike Mimi I'm really worrying about Astrid. She looks sad or ill.

ReplyDeleteno, she is like herr father, nothing from Queen Astrid.
DeleteYes, she is somewhat like her father, but did you ever look at a photo of Astrid when she was a child? The face structure is almost identical.
DeleteJust go online, Gilberte, and look up Queen Astrid - princess from Sweden - when she was a child of about 10-12 years old.
DeleteI saw moving images of this event on tv and the outfit of Mathilde is really special, it looks very festive and chique.

ReplyDeleteNot crazy about that pantsuit either. It is true that Princess Astrid looks sad.

And I wonder why Astrid placed herself as far as possible from the rest of the family in that last photo. Very strange.

Charming children, correctly dress for the festive season. The Queen looks chic and very stylish.
