Queen Mathilde attends a memorial ceremony in Brussels

Queen Mathilde of Belgium paid tribute to resistance heroine Gabrielle Petit during a ceremony at the Place Saint-Jean on April 3, 2016 in Brussels. Gabrielle Petit had spied for the British Secret Service during World War I and had been executed by the Germans 100 years ago on April 1, 1916.

  2. Not speaking in defense of duchess Kate, but these are queens and kings, and Kate is still far from that rank. Even if Q.E. dies this year, Charles will reign a few years, 10 or more, so it will be a long time before Wills and Kate are king and queen.

    Just a little comment to the author of the site - whom I thank for the pictures, I've been visiting your site for years now - her title is not Queen Mathilde of Belgium but Queen Mathilde of the Belgians. Just like Philippe, he is the King of the Belgians not the King of Belgium ;) it's just a small detail I know. It's not meant as a critic, just as information ;)

Non, elle n'est pas nee royale, tout au plus petite bourgeoisie, mais elle se comporte comme la reine qu'elle est, premiere reine nee en Belgique, elevee en Belgique, a travaille avant son marriage. Paola est italienne, Fabiola etait espagnole, Liliane Baels n'a jamais ete reine, Astrid etait suedoise, Elisabeth etait bavaroise, et ainsi de suite.. et la fille ainee de Philippe et Mathilde sera la premiere reine de son propre droit dans l'histoire du pays.
