King Felipe of Spain celebrates his 48th birthday

King Felipe and Queen Letizia, Leonor, Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía
King Felipe of Spain is 48 years old! Felipe VI was born on January 30, 1968 in Madrid. He is the third child and first son of Juan Carlos I and Sofia de Grecia. He ascended the throne as the crown prince after his father Juan Carlos I abdicated the throne on June 19, 2014. (Recent times have been troublesome for King Felipe. King's elder sister, Princess Cristina of Spain and her husband Inaki Urdangarin and 16 other suspects are being judged with the accusation of forgery and corruption. All suspects deny the accusations. In Spain, a royal family is being judged for the first time. The trial in Majorca is deemed as a shame for the royal family.)

  3. It would be a shame if a member of the king's family (Cristina doesn't belong anymore to the royal family, but is and always will be Felipe's sister) was above te law. I'm proud of the Spanish judiciary's independence. Neither the Royal House nor the Government have moved a finger to spare Cristina who, by the way, has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Nobody even when it is King or Queen , Prince or Princess should be immune to the law. We are not living in XV Century anymore. Everyone should be judge the same way.
PS. King Felipe is handsome man but it looks older to me than his age.

I am now in Spain and people here think, that it was a big mistake, when Franco named Juan Carlos as king after him.

    1. I do not know how you talk to people, but that is false. The Spaniards know very well who led our country from dictatorship to democracy.
The errors of the end of the reign of J. C. not erase the previous merits, which are many.
¡¡¡Muchas Felicidades, Su Majestad y Suerte!!!

Agree with you Angie. Despite his human failures, Juan Carlos was and still is regarded as a great sovereign Who was able to establish the democracy that Spaniards now live in.
It's really appaling to read that some people think that this nation was better under Franco. For real?

    6. Really anonymous 10:18? When I lived in Spain Juan Carlos was appreciated very much. Maybe people have short memory.

Yes he looks way older than he is. More than any other Sovereign poor King Felipe I guess was not spared. His parents so-called marriage and those years of humiliation that his mother was put through. His own struggles to make Letizia accepted within the court. Then his sister's situation that tore him apart being the King and the brother. Not to forget Spain's state as a nation with strong sedition tedencies from the Basque and Catalunya areas.

You are correct. And regardless of what Angie says, the monarchy in Spain is not liked by many.

Happy Birthday your majesty and buena suerte! Hard working, dedicated, elegant, engaged. Great picture selection. Felipe about to step out on the balcony to begin his reign. Off to the left a smaller image of JC reflected in the mirror as he is about to step away from the spotlight
