    1. You are right. Where is Christmas tree or the other decorations? They need a few elegant clothes as well

The card is better than the Spanish posed one.

  2. They have their nerve, with this ugly card while they are enjoying the holidays in Australia where it's summer now.

    1. That's so true! Maybe they want to show that they are like their people (but they aren't...).

    3. Not sure what you’re outraged about. Exactly how scandalous is it if a royal couple publishes a photo you don’t like? Or, is it their Australian holiday you object to?
It seems perfectly natural and reasonable to me that Mary and Frederick’s children should learn something about their Australian heritage, and also build relationships with their maternal relatives (as well as their paternal ones in Denmark). And the visit took place during the royal couple’s “off-duty” vacation time, so their official schedule has not been compromised.

    4. Crown princesses (or any common born other princesses) should definitely have no permission to have a holiday, if it is after opinion of people here. Work time should be 24/7/365.
Real born princesses however, can have a dozen holidays in half year like Princess Beatrice had and that is OK.

In my eyes Mary is very hard working princess. After todays news that Prince Henrik will retire most his work, crown prince couple will have even more work to do. They deserve their holiday. Australia is Mary´s birth country and the family needs to know family and friends there.

    5. The photo is wonderfully candid. I see nothing wrong with it. They look relaxed and happy. Not everything has to be formal and staunch protocol.

  3. Christmas card should remind of Christmas... Christmas tree, cookies and snow, at least a bit of that.
Suddenly that is not in vogue anymore for some.

    1. It's a spontaneous picture! An happy family without any artificial thing! Mary is whiteout makeup. It is a picture send to friends showing who they really are. I like it!

  4. Or at least festive and special!
But the card of the Cambridge is not much better.

The Spanish card is no better either, not festive or special.

  7. Nice that they used a private, informal photo for their Christmas Card!

  8. Love the card. What a lovely family. They usually do more than one card, and this one shows how they love the outdoors.

  9. It's not a Christmas card. Qute kids.

    1. Actually it is. There are no hard and fast rules. A Xmas card can be whatever you want to convey.

Actually it isn't. If you read the headline from the magazine it was published in, it had "Godt Nytår" written on it which translates to "Happy New Year" in Danish, so the original poster here is misleading in calling it a Christmas Card. It is not that. It is a new year's card. That also means that the family don't have to use a Christmas-themed photo on it if they do not want to.

  15. There are two kind of Christmas cards, ones organised where you just pose in Christmas theme with decoration and ones which the persons themselves keep just good pictures or pictures that mean something to themselves. British royals, at least Charles & Camilla, William & Catherine and Danish royal prince couple go in for the late. Maybe this just "ordinary day" was not at all ordinary to Mary, Frederick and kids. What is of course easy to believe when their lives are like lives of aquarium. I myself like these pictures what mean something most.

I like it! The children look happy and relaxed and to me isn't that what Christmas is about - family?

As far as I am concerned there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to either Christmas cards or New Year cards. You send out what you like, what you think is appropriate. Each to their own.

Being an Australian there is nothing more "artificial" than a wintry Christmas card, so to me this is a beautiful photo, a great card, be it a Christmas card or a New Years card!
