The stupa, an initiative of His Holiness, is dedicated to Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. Jampal Gyepai Dangden is one of twenty-two spiritual projects in Gelephu Mindfulness City that have received a Royal Kasho authorising their commencement.

The project honours a centuries-old spiritual connection between the Karma Kagyu tradition and Mount Wutai, the sacred abode of Manjushri in China. This connection dates back to 1408, when the 5th Karmapa, Deshin Shegpa, undertook a pilgrimage to Mount Wutai.
