For the occasion, the Duchess wore a navy Emilia Wickstead dress in a Prince of Wales check, paired with a navy Alexander McQueen button-embellished wool blazer. She pinned the regimental brooch of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to her blazer. She also wore Giulia Barela earrings.

Okay, I am going to be really picky here - the jacket is too long, the boots are too casual and the wrong colour, and the earrings are too fussy when worn with the regimental badge. I would have chosen a hip length blazer, sleek black boots or black pumps, and simple diamond stud earrings. D, Sophie is one of my favourite royals and I’m happy to see that she has upgraded her wardrobe in recent years but I think she needs help putting flattering outfits together. (V.M.)

Got some. interesting fashion going on here. The McQueen jacket is great except for that button on the pocket below the shoulder--it looks weird and too random. I think Sophie should have it removed. The dress is perfect for Sophie--flattering in every way plus the neckline doesn't fight with the jacket's neckline. I have to say I was really thrilled by this look until I saw the boots...no, no, no. And these are not boots for mucking around either so I know she chose them for style. Sorry, but they ruined the whole look for me.

    1. I noticed the same thing. The outfit looks great until I scrolled down and saw the boots. What was she thinking?

Dear Janet, Your description reflects my thoughts, the awful boots are a pain to look at after the polished beginning……….

The proportions are off and those boots do not go at all with either the dress or blazer.

My feeling is that these three pieces are all nice, except for the pocket button on blazer. However, I would not have paired them together. The jacket would have looked better with slim trousers or a pencil skirt and navy pumps. A simple white blouse or sweater would have looked beautiful with the blazer. Just too much fabric moving around under the sleek blazer. And once again, it would appear that not much effort was made to coordinate this outfit.

I agree and disagree with you. All three pieces are fantastic, they just don't go well together, but I'm it's not that she made no effort in the outfit, it's her taste, that's why time and again we see lovely pieces mixed with other lovely pieces resulting in a terrible outfit.
And she is so beautiful and seems to be so kind!!!I wish I wish....

Yes, most certainly there is no lack of effort. Sophie's style is her own, and for sure she really thinks what to where when and takes a lot of care in putting pieces together. I admire that very much. For me this is one of the most interesting areas of fashion actually, where people put together their own look, rather than following trends.

I don't have too many complaints about the outfit. I think the UK might be having an unually cold Fall? My only quible is one I often have with her. I know she likes being a "natural Britiish rose," and there's nothing wrong with that (it's actually quite refreshing), but I really wish she would use a little bit of product on her hair. I mean it would takes only two seconds to put a pea size amount of hair gel, or hair balm, in the palm of her hand, rub her hands together and then run her fingers through her hair. It would also ofter some protection - including sunscreen depending on the brand - and healthly benefits for her hair. It's a win, win.

Hi 22:57! I feel the opposite! I find "hair products" mostly unnecessary and full of nasty chemicals. Clean and well brushed hair is completely acceptable and healthier. I think it can be cultural, the difference in our opinions? Where I live people only use hair products and makeup when really needed, it's just no longer an expectation to wear them. Whereas perhaps where you live hair cannot be out of place? I much prefer to see the wind in the hair and movement in the hair than a false stuck down product-based hairstyle.

FYI... re the "protection for hair" ... I think that's marketing not science ... we have two parts of our body which are dead (hair, nails) and you can paint them or slather them in stuff but as they are already dead, no product can really sun protect them, moisturise them, "revitalise them", etc. Hair product companies are wonderful at nonsense claims I'm afraid.

Individually the pieces are fine. Perhaps if she didn’t button up the jacket so it flowed like the skirt.

That top button doesn't work. The blazer would have been nice. The Emilia Wickstead dress is bland. Maybe offensively so. The boots don't go. The necklace is cut and the earrings are good.

The style of the D of Edinburgh 's blazer is similar to the REME uniform, which is probably intentional. I like the way the dress softens the military look, and it is definitely boot weather in some parts of the UK.
    Agree with 13:17 regarding hair!

Regarding the hair problem described above, from what I can tell, the duchess has streaked her hair in some form, which means that treated hair needs moisture or care products, as opposed to non-treated hair. You can see and feel the difference because bleached hair is slightly brittle.

This jacket and this dress simply don't make a good composition together, quite the opposite. The boots are like... the opposite of the cherry on a cake. Just a heap of things that don't go together, plus details like the completely untidy neckline under the jacket and earrings that I would never combine with such a blazer.

  15. This dark Navy jacket is a beautifully crafted piece. I love the Duchess wearing Navy color it really suits her well. The Duchess obviously feels comfortable in what she wears, and has combined together, personally I feel that is all that matters. She does such great work of substance and supports wonderful organizations and charities that are a marvelous support to the communities. I admire her greatly.
