On the evening of 22 October 2026, King Haakon VIII hosted the annual gala dinner for members of the Norwegian Parliament (Storting) in the Great Dining Hall at the Royal Palace. This was King Haakon’s first time hosting the parliamentary dinner since his accession to the throne. Queen Sonja and Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra were also in attendance.

For the occasion, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra wore a one-shouldered silk satin gown by Dubai-based fashion house Marmar Halim. She accessorised with the Norwegian Amethyst Tiara and the silver wedding anniversary earrings of Crown Princess Märtha. The amethyst tiara is part of a parure comprising a necklace, a pair of earrings and a bracelet.

  1. The Amethyst Tiara suits CP nicely. The dress, however, is not fitted well. The shoulder looks as if it accidentally slipped off, it should be tighter, like on a model, to look well. Same with the waist and stomach area - it gives CP a bulky look. Those are easy to make adjustments.

    1. Re the shoulder that looks slipped, it’s in fashion to look this way! We have seen the Thai queen twice in the last few weeks with this and another queen or princess /forget which one/ Osho recently. It shocks my eyes, whoa that sleeve is revealing a LOT! … but of all I’ve seen so far, this is the most successful and the style really suits a young woman far better. The Crown Princess looks absolutely phenomenal … as does everyone I can see in the photos. And tables are stunning!

    2. Models are usually taller and thinner than average sized ladies. The princess probably had to choose a bigger size. If you make it tighter it will not suit anymore in her waist and stomach era.

    3. Model photos and photos of "real" people are different. Models aren't wearing the clothes. They are supposed to look perfect. The model has a special made dress that she can't move in. Ask her to lift her arm. A person wearing the dress needs room to move in. Every dress like this has "dropped" sleeve. And talking about a person's body is just nasty.

  2. Well, this is how you do long tiara hair ... no need for all those curls in the first line of duty - but you can wear them long if you prefer it that way. Queen Sonja looks adorable.

    1. Yes maybe that is the key, wear your natural hair without the curls it looks so much better.

    2. Agreed! Also she is so much younger than some of the other royals and for her age natural long hair without extensions looks very nice.

What a pleasant surprise to see the CP with the amethyst tiara!
I love that the king is assisting his mother, the former queen. She looks wonderful and well put together.

  4. Queen Sonja's dress reminds me CP Victoria's dress, but this is better: no overwhelm of lace, open neckline. Although it still looks bridal to me. Plus her necklace has too many rows of pearls, one or maximum three would be enough.
CP Ingrid's dress looks bad on her , especially the top. And I don't understand what the point of wearing gloves if she takes one of during the greeting and both of them during the dinner. Her hairdo goes well with the tiara, it doesn't distract attention from the jewelleries (including earrings) unlike that of PoW.

  5. Nag, nag, nag. Ingrid looks splendid. I think instead of this criticism since I'm so perfect we should share a photo of ourselves everytime we come with criticism because we have forgotten how to be a fellow human being that support each other. Both ladies look great. Nice to see Ingrid in a new tiara.

    1. This is a fashion blog. People are not required to like every outfit. I would not call it nagging, it is called having an OPINION

    2. Totally totally agree 13:54. Thank you for saying that. So many comments expect not only that the royal lady should be completely perfect but that she should be perfect in the way the commentator prefers. The criticisms are ridiculous but I normally don’t say anything – but when they’re aimed at a young person I find them abhorrent. The Crown Princess has had an enormous amount to cope with in recent times – enormous! - and she is not only doing an absolutely splendid job in her new role but looking completely gorgeous on every single occasion.

    3. Agree! I laugh at all the “couch stylists” that seem to have taken over this page with all their picky little critiques of everything. It must be nice to be so perfect and knowledgeable about every aspect of fashion from their couches!!

    4. What is the rule for this blog, only positive comments? everyone has different first impressions, that is all that is being expressed. I find it interesting to see both sides. Nothing personal.

    5. Anon. 15:07. You describe Princess Ingrid's burden as if she works 12 hours per day, seven days a week. She didn't conduct any engagement since the parliament opening unlike her father and grandmother. So I don't understand about what enormous amount and splendid job you are talking about. And yes, I expect a royal lady to look perfect for such type of events because they have a lot of time and money to get properly prepared for it.

    6. 14:46 not a fashion blog, a royals blog “ Covering and Reporting on Royal Events, Attire, and Royal Jewellery.”. There is no mandate in its purpose for people to nitpick every tiny thing. It has changed vastly in tone over the last 5 years. Prior it was very kindly.

    7. Dear 15:29… I think it’s a sign of the times, what the internet has become, each person feeling entitled to publish hyper critical remarks which they would NEVER make to someone’s face. It’s a really horrible trend.

      Delete
    8. 16:28 the adult thing to do is to talk about what we like. We don't have to be nasty and negative. We don't have to stay anything about er everything we dont like. The nitpicking, body shaming and nasty comments just tell us how low we are willing to go and in the end we are the loser not the people we criticise. Also royals are human beings with feelings. You have to be strong to read all this crap about yourself.

    9. Anon.17:09. Yes, this blog is covering events but I can't give an objective opinion on it if I didn't attend it. (In case of this dinner, I didn't taste the food to say whether it is delicious or not. I didn't talk to guests to say whether their are amiable and talkative or not. This article doesn't contain a video from Haakon's speech, so I can't give my opinion on that either). So fashion aspect (royal attire and jewellery) is the only thing I can comment on. I like to read the comments which contain some minor details about the outfit, I haven't noticed at first glance. In most cases all those critical comments are referred to the clothes and not to the wearer.

    10. If you want to see Haakons speech it's online. If you want to read the speech it's also online and the royal court have it on their page as always. Ps the speech was fantastic. Moving and funny.

  6. Queen Sonia looks lovely in her white silk dress with lace details. Perhaps a bit too bridal, but at her age she has the right to wear the dress that she likes. The tiara is looking beautiful with her hairstyle.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra is looking good too in her dark dress. The amethyst tiara is matching the chocolate brown silk dress. The earrings however look like they have no amethyst stones (photo N°5). She is also wearing a bracelet with amethysts, another bracelet and a ring with an amethyst on her index finger (photo N°1- 4).
    King Haakon is looking tired.

    1. I also thought that her dress is brown at first sight. But judging from the model, the dress is supposed to be violet (or aubergine). Then the choice of amethyst jewelleries is justified, otherwise I don't think that combination of brown dress and amethysts is good.

    2. The dress is dark purple.

      Delete
    3. On my screen the dress looks really chocolate brown but the jewelry is still beautiful. Also the colour of the amethysts can go from darker to lighter purple. These amethysts look darker than the ones worn by Q. Camilla the other day.

    1. Why is she brave? She has been trained for this her job. Brave ?

    2. Has she been trained to have a mother with a very serious illness? A halfbrother accused with a very serious crime? Really? Is there a training for this?

    3. Coralie, her mother was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis 8 years ago, and fortunately, Mette Marit underwent a successful surgery. There are a lot of royals who faced more horrific things in their life at a younger age (King Harald lost his mother at 17, king Albert of Belgium - when he was just 1 year old). Taking into consideration that the royal family completely supports Marius and that the Norwegian society is not bothered with Marius' crimes, this is aspect doesn't add any bravery to Ingrid.

    4. @Coralie

Could'nt find better words to describe her elegance and ... don't worry about bad comments 👍

    6. She is a mature 22 year old woman, not a child. I do not understand brave, she is with her father and grandmother. She has advisers and councillors at her disposal.

    8. I noticed that Princess Ingrid Alexandra belongs to a group of royal ladies who receive more bad comments than others. Instead of being a young student like other European princesses she has faced quite a quantity of bad luck this year. It is normal that mothers and grand mothers among the commenters are feeling compassion for her.
It are always the same queens or princesses who are applauded and who can't wear the wrong dress or hairstyle, no matter how bad they are dressed and how their hair is done.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra is a natural beautiful young woman who did military service after she finished secondary school. She just started her studies at university level. She didn't had the chance to grow in her role. She continues her studies at Oslo university but each time she is expected to be of any assistance to her grand-mother, mother or father she must be there and not able to be occupied with her studies or other things a student can or must do. I wish her a lot of courage.

  8. Amethyst tiara is lovely on Ingrid but what has happened to the neckline of her dress. It is totally different to the version the model is wearing. The shoulder width is twice as wide on Ingrids dress resulting in a scooped neckline rather than the designed straight line from shoulder to the opposite upper arm. Not the best fit on a young woman with a terriffic figure.

    1. Yes I see the difference, the shoulder has been gathered on the model. Also I think the colour if it is brown or maroon, is too due for her complexion

  9. Great photos of a special event! Queen Sonja is still dazzling--she really does look wonderful and I love her gown. Glad to see her wearing a big sparkly tiara--I was wondering if her access to some of the major tiaras would be impacted by the change in her status since King Harald's death. Princess Ingrid looks lovely--the amethyst tiara really suits her. I am not a fan of her gown but she's still learning all this gala dressing stuff so will see how she progresses. Also wanted to say that I don't like Ingrid's gown on the model either so my feelings about the gown have nothing to do with how the gown looks on her.

  10. A pleasant surprise to see Crown Princess Ingrid-Alexandra wear the Amethyst Tiara. Her gown is lovely, too (the colour looking a bit more brown-ish in many pictures due to lighting issues, I guess), and matches the tiara well. Queen Sonja looking well in the ivory dress and Queen Maud's Pearl Tiara. The best thing, however, was King Haakon VIII's speech. Incredibly well put. I applaud him.

  11. Délicieuse Ingrid Alexandra dans cette robe aubergine ; choix judicieux que le diadème d’améthystes porté par Mette-Marit quand elle était princesse !

  12. Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra looks absolutely fabulous from head to toe. Perfect hair and tiara for a young woman, love the dark purple colour of her gown. They said on the news that Queen Sonja is 90 next year?! I can hardly believe it. Her gown and jewels are stunning. Some see it as a wedding gown, but white is also a colour of mourning, like her gorgeous pearls.

  13. First Sonja looked amazing in her 34 year old Balmain dress and isn't it funny Victoria wore a white lace dress a few days ago, but no one saw a wedding dress. Ps Ingrid Alexandra also looked fantastic.
