Beautiful tweed dress. Love the fabric, colour and burgundy accessories. I really like these matching headbands. Hats are so seldom worn in Scandinavia so this is just right.

  5. Queen Mary has always looked wonderful in this beautiful suit and today is no exception. I love the traditional lines of the suit on her and it is a perfectly tailored fit. I also love that she chose the berry colored shoes and purse--very autumnal. Mrs. Ly looks lovely in her traditional dress--such a beautiful color and is very flattering on her. It looks to be cold so I am sure she and Mary enjoyed the blanket while in the carriage! Cannot wait to see the banquet attire tonight!

  8. The tweed dress is fine. I don't know why she's wearing burgundy shoes and gloves. I don't love this look. It's okay. I like the President's wife dress and am excited for tonight.

    1. Contrasting colours are in this season. We recently saw Letizia with similar contrasts. Burgundy, deep greens, navy, aubergine, they all coordinate very well and are in vogue along with chocolate brown.

  9. Both ladies look well attired, but the headband is not a good look, imo. I find them rather childish, 1950's bridesmaid, a style best left behind over the age of 14.

    1. Interesting opinion 17:40! I can’t see anything childish about Mary. Or headbands.

    2. Agree about the headband. It is good about keeping hair off your face though!

  10. Great rewear, although I preferred the previous hat on the state visit to Estonia that had material from the dress woven into it. I get the bulky headbands but like many others, I am on the fence about them, especially not liking them with a more flattened hairstyle.
QM likes to do a pop of color in her accessories and usually it works well but I am not as crazy about it here. It almost feels like a last minute attempt to break up all the navy and coordinate with KF’s tie and bring more red into the group pic.

  12. Ever since another commenter recently drew attention to the look of Mary's feet from certain angles when she wears 4-inch heels with skirts --- what l now call the "Barbie doll feet" effect --- I can't unsee it (photo 4).
To me it's an odd combination when paired with a smart classic daytime silhouette. I can see 4-inch heels looking harmonious when worn with a dress with a strong creative designer look, with equally exaggerated proportions; and we do see quite a few royals wearing very dramatic dresses for state visits. However for me, Mary's outfit here is coolly professional, on a quieter level than the inherent drama of these shoes.
On the other hand, I love every other detail of Mary's ensemble. Just beautiful. Lyra
