Jordan’s Crown Prince Al Hussein shared a photo on his official Instagram account featuring himself with his wife, Princess Rajwa, and their daughter, Iman, alongside Brunei’s Prince Abdul Mateen, his wife, Princess Anisha, and their young daughter, Zahra. The photo was accompanied by the caption: “With our dear friends, Prince Abdul Mateen and Princess Anisha of Brunei and their beautiful daughter, Zahra.”
Crown Prince Al Hussein and Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei, who serves as Brunei’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, are currently in New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The two princes have been friends for many years and are believed to have met in New York with their families on the occasion of the UN General Assembly.
Crown Prince Al Hussein and Prince Abdul Mateen trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom. Prince Mateen attended the 2023 wedding of Crown Prince Al Hussein and Princess Rajwa in Amman. The two couples previously reunited during a private gathering in London in early 2025.

ردحذفWhat outrageous nepotism, the still very young (for this role) son of the Sultan being the Minister of Foreign Affairs (when a majority of his youth/adult years he’s been living overseas and training in military / flying roles).
ردحذفAnonymous 4:34 does not seem to grasp the primary characteristic of royalty which is hereditary privilege and responsibility. Brunei royalty still has significant political power so it is hardly surprising to see a Brunei prince holding a political position. In his favour, having wide experience of living overseas and military roles is probably helpful for a role in foreign affairs. My country’s minister of foreign affairs has no experience of the real world at all (just university politics followed by political staff work followed by election to parliament). So, while I am also not in favour of royal s having unelected political power, I am not sure that this example is any worse than ours.

In addition to the millitary training you mentioned, he has a Bachelors of Arts in International Politics from King's College London, as well as a Master of Arts in International Studies and Diplomacy from the SOAS University of London. He has also been a member of his father's privy council since 2011. I think that should qualify him to the role he has now. Also with Brunei being an absolute monarchy, the monarch can decide who to appoint to any position.
