The regional visit began in the municipality of Noordenveld at the Prison Museum in Veenhuizen. In the 19th century, Veenhuizen was one of the seven Colonies of Benevolence, where poor families and orphans were housed to build a new life. Veenhuizen later became known as a penal colony, and several prisons were built there.
