On September 9, 2026, King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit, together with Queen Sonja and Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, hosted a reception at the Royal Palace in Oslo following the funeral of the late King Harald V at Akershus Fortress. Representatives of the Norwegian authorities, visiting heads of state, visiting royals and members of the family attended.
Following the reception, Norway’s new King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit, together with other members of the Royal Family, including Queen Sonja, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, greeted the public from the balcony of the Royal Palace in Oslo.

Ingrid Alexander is such a confident girl, just early twenties, just mid University, and so able to hold her own with kings and queens and grief and pageantry and all. I admire her deeply.
ردحذفMe too. She seems to be gifted with so many qualities that impress quietly. Her brother seems to follow in her footsteps. It’s a beautiful family with good hearts and the love between the Queen and the King is immense and deep. Ac
حذفI agree wholeheartedly!
حذفIngrid Alexandra, Alexander is a boy's name.
حذف@6:37 thank you for correcting my autocorrect. I know it’s Alexand-ra but in typing fast, I think it’s completely understandable to readers if the odd slip occurs.
حذفCharlene looked stylish in her suit!
ردحذفNo. A dress would have looked more traditionaly proper like the other ladies! its the first time has worn trousers on these events!
حذفAgree with Anon 26 00:00
حذفPrincess Charlène looked stylish but not appropriate for this state funeral. A skirt would have been the right choice as all other royal ladies did. And I think that Dior offers a matching skirt.
حذفThe black trouser suit could be worm better at a cultural or fashion event.
Princess Charlene looks better than the model.
حذفAren't they sad?
ردحذفHave you ever been in a funeral? After the ceremony we the whole get lighter in spirit and remember the dead with good stories and laughter it doesn't mean the grief is over.
حذفIt should be we the people. Sorry didn't see that I hit the wrong letter ;)
حذفIn Norway they have no enthronement for the new king like in many other European countries. In the Netherlands they have a ceremonial event with a new gala dress for the queen and the king he receives the beautiful blue velvet coat with the white fur and the crown. They also make a tour in one of their golden carriages. Only in the U.K. they organize big ceremonies and expensive events for the enthronement of a new king. In Belgium there is no enthronement day either. The eldest son or daughter become king or queen officially on the national day. The new king/queen take the oath before the members of the parliament. No extra costs just a new dress or coat for the Queen, the king he wears his uniform. No special ceremonies or diners and no driving in a golden carriage (we don't have such vehicle). There is still maybe an old carriage in the stables but it is a very common carriage which cannot be used immediately and they probably don't wish to spent a lot of money to repair it since they use their best limo for such an event.
حذفWhat do you mean? Queen Sonja was crying all day long.
حذف12:27 not exactly true. We have a consecration also. It's an over 1000 year old tradition. Here is a photo https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ9bJHLgbPUrCkj6gFKc0v3hXav1r0b9G0hX8tSszL4Mg&s=10
حذفHere you can watch the whole thing from 1991. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J8PXAUg4kZc&pp=0gcJCYsCo7VqN5tD
Ps the Queens dress was designed by her favorite designer Erik Mortensen. So yes, there is a special gown involved in Norway too 😜
It’s never easy to critique mourning dress. The wearer is attempting to look their very best to honour the deceased and the grieving family. All the ladies stayed true to their personal style.
ردحذفPrincess Charlene - I love the simplicity and clean lines of her pant suit. The simple veil, and her understated pearl earrings finished off a respectful Un ostentatious look.
Q Mary - This suit is similar to the one she wore for Pope Francis funeral. It fits her perfectly. Very feminine. Very classic. Very Mary. I think I might have preferred a box hat rather than the one she wore. Dark hats leave a dark shadow on the face. She wore the pearls from the collection. Again, perfect pairing from Mary.
Q Maxima - This was a toned down look from Maxima. The dress fits her beautifully. Her headpiece married up nicely with the dress. The jewels were a little more noticeable, but we’ve come to expect that from her.
CP Catharina - Like her Mom she chose a well fitting dress and complimented it with her headband and veil. She too went for the more bigger jewellery pieces.
Sweden Royal ladies - Always respectful. The whole family came, which was touching to watch.
Q Rania - It seems Rania predicted the walk in the procession included cobbles, and chose her footwear accordingly. She isn’t one for jewellery pieces. So nothing stood out.
CP Sophie - Delivered a similar look to Mary. Elegant with subtle Pearl jewellery.
GD Stephanie - I was shocked to see what she had chosen. I was more surprised that someone in her team didn’t advise a completely different outfit. It was appalling. You could see the outline of her stomach and bra. Literally the thin unforgiving fabric left nothing to the imagination! This is the Grand Duchess on the world stage. With money aplenty, and she thought this was an appropriate choice for a funeral!
Q Mathilde - She wore this same outfit and jewellery to the funeral of QE2 four years ago. I wish she had chosen a hat that didn’t hide her face.
CP Kiko - Perfect tailoring. Lovely hat. Simplistic jewellery.
Princess Anne - As we know Anne is not a lover of buying clothes. She can walk into her closet a pick an outfit she wore 30yrs ago, and it would look fine on her. So we have probably seen this skirt suit before.
CP IA - She was perfectly turned out. From head to toe. She’s grown into a beautiful young lady. I’m sure her grandmother was proud of how she’s conducted herself since the king’s passing.
MM - A simple dress with minimal jewels.
QS - in her heartbreak she still managed to look elegant. She wanted to look her best for her beloved husband.
Sad day for the Norwegian RF and Norway’s citizens. They’ve lost a good man. I hope they find the strength in each other in coming days and weeks.
Lowri.
~ I don't think Mary's outfit was a matching suit, but two separate pieces - jacket and a skirt by two different manufacturers.
حذف~ Q.Rania was either wearing something long sleeved under her Roland Mouret dress, or she ordered the dress with a long sleeve adjustment as the original version of this dress has 1/4 length sleeves.
~ I love the shape of Mathilde's hat.

Well said, I literally agree with all your points, so well articulated. I don't need to comment. Thank you for such a wonderful breakdown.
حذفI do not agree with the comment on Queen Mathilde's hat.
حذفShe was not the only one to wear a wide hat and her hat was a beautiful one. Besides wearing a black fascinator instead of a headband like CP Amalia did is not very appropriate for a funeral. I also think that showing some skin is not appropriate for a funeral either.
CP Catharina? She is known as Princess Amalia here in the Netherlands. I had long since forgotten her full given names. So if anyone else is confused thats who it is.
حذفQueen Maxima didn't wore much jewelry. On the contrary. The majority of the other queens wore a pearl necklace (which is very common on funerals in Europe). Queen Maxima only wore a pair of pearl earrings and a pearl brooch. CP Amalia wore only earrings, no necklace, no brooch. I also had to think twice when I saw the name CP Catharina. In the Benelux and the majority of the other European countries she is known under the name of CP Amalia. In Belgium we have a similar problem with CP Elisabeth. Some call her with a title she has been given being Duchess of Brabant, but in Belgium and beyond nobody call her that way. She is called Princess Elisabeth or more correctly CP Elisabeth. King Philippe had also the title of Duke of Brabant before he became king, but he has always been called Prince Philippe and later Crown Prince Philippe when his father Albert II became king.
حذفMaxima did have a necklace on. A necklace she was giftet years ago from the new Norwegian queen that says Love, Mette. https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!t3u_!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fd84a3c52-6664-49e6-bfe2-d8be8d44f693_2048x2048.jpeg
حذفIt was more than sad to watch Q Sonja sit and see her husband of almost 60 years in a coffin. I hope happy memories of togetherness will help her to make the time of adjustment easier for her. Everyone was dressed very nice and appropriate for the occasion. It was a beautiful service. May King Harold V RIP. King Haakon VIII has very big shoes to fill, I wish him the best for the future and his Country.

You mean king Harald...
حذفSome people are not writing the name of a king or queen correctly on purpose I think. I also made the same comment to @css on two or three occasions, but she/he keeps on writing the name of King Harald wrongly. Now with his funeral his name has been in the media all over Europe and beyond and in the introduction of this item and it is still too difficult to write his name correctly.
حذفCe fut une très belle cérémonie d’adieux au roi. Toutes les dames étaient impeccables et parfaites. Sauf bien sûr Stéphanie du Luxembourg. Josée.
ردحذفLe nouveau couple royal aurait pu associer la reine Sonja lors du salut. Elle semble si triste... et seule.
ردحذفSince one does not see all the photos on this blog, it is quite possible that Queen Sonja wouldn't stay on the picture of the new king and queen.Or maybe there is another photo which was already taken and which is not shown here. There are so many pictures of Queen Mathilde and King Philippe on other sites like Getty images which were beautiful too, but on this blog and onTV Queen Mathilde was just behind CP Amalia and she was not visible and King Philippe he was just behind King Willem-Alexander and he was not visible either. Although they were present, we didn't almost see no pictures of Queen Sofia of Spain, Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands, an older sister of King Carl Gustav, Princess Benedikte, the Greek princes, etc... They were there too but since the older queens arrived at the cathedral by car, they probably sat down together separately.
حذفEn ce moment très particulier, ces dames ont choisi le vêtement où elles se sentaient à l aise. Je peux écrire qu elles étaient toutes tres élégantes dans leur propre style. J ai apprécié les petites voilettes
ردحذفWell, the reception was hosted by HM King Haakon VIII, Queen Sonja, and HRH Crownprincess Ingrid-Alexandra. HM Queen Mette-Marit was not present for this particular event. At least she was not part of the receiving line.
ردحذفHM Q Mette-Marit was never scheduled to attend the post-funeral reception. This fact was announced well prior to the day of the funeral.
حذف16:05 she was scheduled to attend the reception, but not to stand in the welcoming line. This fact was announced well prior to the day of the funeral.
حذفActually MM did participate at the reception. She just didn't greet and hugged what? 3-400 hundred people because of the risk of infections.
حذفShe is still in recovery! too many crowds, shaking hands and kisses. She can easily catch something!
حذفMy comment was mainly directed towards Helen (I think that's the name of the person responsible for this blog), as she had it "Queen Mette-Marit" in her headline. I just wanted to say that she was not in the pictures of the receiving line, but could - as now confirmed - have been keeping a lower profile elsewhere in the reception rooms. Yes, risk of infection is a huge one, of course. Sorry for any confusion.
حذفInkku ist best
ردحذفWho is "Inkku" and why are you writing one word in German and one word in English? Just asking... because this is not the first time.
حذفYou criticize Stephanie, but you forget that she isn't super-thin like the others. She should have chosen a two-piece outfit (skirt and jacket). I’m not thin either, and clothes don’t look good on me either (I wear them loose—though rarely).. Apart from that, I agree with you; she has the money and the means to hire someone to advise her. Irene
ردحذفIt was a well attended funeral with so many kings and queens representing not only their country but their friendship with king Harald. They put aside their status to join the family.
ردحذفIngrid is the best
