On Saturday evening, 26 September 2026, King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark hosted the traditional Badge of Honour Dinner at Christian VII’s Palace, Amalienborg. This year’s dinner was held for the Army. Queen Mary wore the Danish Armed Forces’ formal dress uniform for women, which she first wore in January 2019.
The Badge of Honour is awarded to members of the Army who have completed 25 years of service in the Danish Armed Forces. The medal was instituted on 26 September 1945, on the birthday of King Christian X, and is awarded only on this day each year.
The Badge of Honour Dinner is held annually on a rotating basis for the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Emergency Management Agency.

What an amazing evening gown, with the gold epaulettes and medals. Is this usual for royal ladies in Europe to wear medals on an evening gown? Family orders and stars, yes. But medals?
ردحذفThe caption says that what Mary is wearing is the Armed Forces formal dress uniform for women, so since it is a uniform as well as a gown, medals are appropriate to be worn on/with it.

حذفDolfi, in addition to what the others wrote (or reading the caption) I think it’s worth knowing that there are both similarities and differences across the royal houses. Intertwined by various marriages and deals, but also at war with each other at various times, with country and state and kingdom and empire boundaries varying wildly over the ages, and some with individual continuous histories of 1000+ years. Just because the continent is one land mass does not equal one tradition. So far from that!

حذفWow, the K & Q both look very regal and dressed to perfection! The King looks good in this uniform and I like the jacket length on him. The Queen looks absolutely stunning between the gold epaulets and the perfectly fit jacket and skirt length. Her hair pulled back is a perfect balance to let the uniform shine.

ردحذفI’m guessing the medals are the military medals accorded to the role of the Queen over time. I think (?) last time we saw Mary in formal military evening wear she had medals but fewer. So I think possibly here we see the medals belonging to the Queen of Denmark (some earned, some granted, some honorary positions) plus those accorded to Mary in her former role. Does anyone know more than my guess?

ردحذفWhat I see that the two couples have in common is kindness, intelligence towards their roles, and the conscientious to carry out their roles with great seriousness. I do not see similarities in their physical looks except that all are gracious and beautiful and generously smily.

Very attractive military uniforms. I love the medals and you can see that they are more centered on the king because he has a broader chest. Not sure of the protocol but perhaps in 2 rows would fit better on the queen. Regardless very impressive

How beautiful and elegant Queen Mary looks in her formal military gown! Her hairstyle is gorgeous and most likely in line with military regulations but it is also perfect for her. As always King Frederik looks so handsome in military dress.
