Norway said a final farewell to Princess Astrid on 23 September 2026. Princess Astrid passed away on 11 September 2026 at the age of 94, less than a month after the death of her younger brother, King Harald. Princess Astrid’s funeral service took place at Ris Church in Oslo.
King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit attended the funeral service, alongside, among others, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Queen Sonja, Princess Märtha Louise, Durek Verrett, Leah Isadora, Emma Tallulah and Maud Angelica, as well as Princess Astrid’s five children.
Several foreign royals had also travelled to Norway for the sad occasion. Crown Princess Victoria was in attendance, as were Princess Astrid of Belgium and Prince Lorenz. Other royal families had expressed their condolences and sent wreaths, which adorned Ris Church.

ReplyDeleteI hoped to see pictures of Princess Astrid of Belgium and her husband Prince Lorenz to see how she dressed for the circumstances. I looked at other sides, but I found nothing, just a tiny head of the princess in a big picture taken in the church from above. She sat in the same row as Princess Märtha Louise and her daughters.

DeleteFrom what I can see, Princess Astrid wore a black dress under a black coat. Her black shoes and stockings, a black headband and beautiful jewelry finished the look. She is such a classy lady and always ready to help her brother King Philippe and Queen Mathilde when nobody can represent the Belgian royal family.
So sad to see the grieving NRF coping with another loss as Princess Astrid was a very beloved member. Only one fashion comment--not a fan of CP Ingrid's head thing (not sure what to call it).

The mother of the Norwegian princess Astrid and King Harald was the sister of the Belgian Queen Astrid, who is the grandmother of the Belgian Princess Astrid and King Philippe.

ReplyDeleteIt's not just old ladies, I am 30 and I think that Mette-Marit does not know how to act or dress like a Queen. You can get the title of Queen, but it doesn't magically give you the demeanor.

DeleteM-M's boater hat looks like a black variety of a hat that she could well wear to a royal garden party - only the colour was appropriate. All the ladies wear either some kind of head or hair band or a really small hat.

DeleteI see it differently. I liked the hats on Queen Mette-Marit and Princess Margareta of Liechtenstein/Luxembourg. I do not care much about the recent overusage of black headbands, they all look more or less the same and have become a rather boring accessory by now. Small exception here the piece Crownprincess Ingrid-Alexandra was wearing, it was on the more interesting side, not just a plain headband/hairband.
DeleteWhat an ordeal this year is for the Norwegian Royal family! I truly wish them some quiet time ahead, to heal and find their bearings. For this occasion, I cannot see any inappropriate clothes, I actually quite like what MM is wearing. I also notice that the daughter of Märta is a classic beauty, just like her cousin. I wish them all well.

Mette-Marit can never win. If she doesn't wear a hat she get criticised for not wearing a hat. If she wears a hat she get criticised for wearing a hat because no one else is wearing a hat or it's not the right hat LOL while I shake my head and smash it against the keyboard.

If you want her win each time - then please work on your preferences, nobody does. - Those black hairbands and other black head/hair things - I like them all. It is a very demure sign of respectfully covering your head for a funeral, without being super elegant. She most likely got out of bed and got ready for this funeral.
I see unfair comments about a woman- the fact that she is a Queen doesn't change the raw reality- that is still at an early stage of recovery from major surgery.
The sheer fact that she can stand on her own feet and breath autonomously despite adversities/ hospitalizations of all kinds is almost a miracle.
Please, leave her alone.
