Royal Palace Announces Deterioration in King Harald’s Health

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit arrived at Oslo University Hospital

King Harald of Norway, 89, who is hospitalised due to complications related to a blood disorder, is in an “extremely serious” condition, the Norwegian Royal Palace announced on 27 August 2026. Crown Prince Haakon and Queen Sonja have cancelled all their engagements.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit arrived at Oslo University Hospital

King Harald V suffers from haemolytic anaemia, a blood disorder in which red blood cells are destroyed at an abnormally rapid rate. He has been hospitalised at Oslo University Hospital since last Monday. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has also cancelled his upcoming trip to Germany as attention remains focused on the monarch’s condition. Flowers and a candle have been placed outside the palace.

Oh how very sad for the family. I trust his pain is well controlled and that his family can now surround him with love as he rests. Peace to you King Harald.

In my regular newspaper of today it read that the royal family is at his side in the hospital : Queen Silvia, CP Haakon, Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Prince Sverre Magnus, Princess Astrid,..... ? This is not a good sign, when the doctors ask the family to stay in the hospital is that they expect something will happen in the next 24 hours. Also the prime minister postponed a visit he had to do abroad.

They all left around 16ish(4pm ish). Only Sonja is still with him at the hospital. The palace recently announced that the situation is still the same. So hope and prayers he will pull through.
