The daughter of Sultan Abdullah of Pahang, Princess Ilyana married British racing driver Christopher Lionel Froggatt in Kuala Lumpur in two ceremonies surrounded by members of the Malaysian royal family. The wedding took place at the Shangri-La Hotel, with the traditional Akad Nikah ceremony followed by the Majlis Persandingan Diraja ceremony the following day. On this occasion, Princess Ilyana wore two different wedding dresses.
For the first ceremony, Princess Ilyana wore a lace-embroidered, V-neck wedding dress designed by Datuk Radzuan Radziwill. She wore Queen Azizah’s Art Deco Diamond Tiara. Shortly after Princess Azizah married the Crown Prince of Pahang in 1986, the new Crown Princess of Pahang acquired this Art Deco Diamond Tiara, which was created in the 1920s.
For the second ceremony, Princess Ilyana wore Queen Azizah’s Diamond Tiara with an heirloom Diamond Chain. In the early 1990s, the then Crown Princess Azizah acquired this striking antique Diamond Tiara at Wolfers in Brussels. Over the years, Queen Azizah has frequently loaned the tiara to brides in the extended royal family. The groom wore a tengkolok, also known as a tanjak, during the royal ceremony, the traditional Malay male headdress.
Stunning! Both gowns are similar in style (neckline, shallow v-neck, long sleeves, column skirt) and fit to perfection, but the details help define each one. The floral fabric is beautiful and traditional but the tiers and pattern on the second dress really make a statement. These are my favorite royal wedding gowns in a long time. The jewels are plentiful, but make a stylish addition. Wish we could see more of the sapphire necklace but the earrings are gorgeous.

How come that there are always habitants of all these countries like Malaysia are living in the European capitals to run restaurants and shops selling their products to us and to the tourists ?. While we have people coming from as many as 130 different countries specifically in our town (and we are not a big town), people from Malaysia surely are no big bunch of them. That makes me think that most of them seem to be rather content living their lives in Malaysia.
حذفVery true. But the talent that went into making the jewelry and clothes should be celebrated too, right? Only the wealthy can afford to commission high art like that. The artists and seamstresses/tailors need to make a living wage too, no? I’m guessing millions of dollars were paid to artists, chefs, decorators, designers, sound engineers, etc., to make that wedding happen. And all those workers now get publicity from this beautiful wedding to further their careers. Many talented, skilled people benefited from this wedding.

When I was in London a couple of years ago the people from South east Asia were every wear : in the metro, in the little snack bars where you could get something to eat after a visit to the theater late in the evening, in clothing stores, in all kind of shops, etc... In other European countries you find them too but of course they do not all come from the same country. Where I live there are many Thai people who are working in the cleaning sector f.ex.
In every European capital and/or other big city, etc... there are working (legal and not legal) immigrants from all kind of countries. When I see then the exaggerated waste of money by a king, a sultan or whatever for a wedding and I speak generally not especially for this wedding but for a lot of countries whose population is running away because there is not enough work in their own country and their children are starving and the parents have not enough money to pay doctors and health workers. And we Europeans we work hard all our live (some people do not receive enough money when they are retired and have to start flexi jobs when they are in their 70s, etc... to have enough money to buy the food and clothes and things they need to live a civilized life). Through the taxes we Europeans are paying to the government of our country, we contribute by giving money for the immigration planning the government must elaborate, according the law. Do you realize how much it costs to examine all these people's papers, what they did for studies (usually not much), what work they could do, how many money they can receive for their children, in what house or appartement they could live ?
To my eyes, she’s very pretty, but in terms of her outfit, I see overt riches resulting in tasteless luxury.

An embroidered veil on a embroidered lace dress is too much and not stylish.
The blue saphires ? in the first necklace and in the earrings are not matching the white dress.
I prefer the earrings of the second dress. The big necklace with the big pendant (again with a saphire) is too much.
The second wedding gown is less beautiful than the first one.
The first bridal bouquet is beautiful the second is not.
If a royal of a Western country should wear 2 tiara's and so much jewelry on her wedding day, she would receive the worst comments of the people of her country.
The princess is appropriately dressed, in accordance with the customs and traditions of her home country in Southeast Asia.

Her shoes (second outfit) do match the dresses of the bridesmaids/attendants to the bride.

I cannot imagine therefore how it feels for her to get married, wondering if he’ll be faithful to her or how many other wives he may take. Polygamy is relatively rare in Malaysia, but legal, but only for Muslims, and as they need to seek state approval, it likely only gets granted to very influential men, who can take up to 4 simultaneous wives.

What a beautiful bride. Both her dresses are sublime, and she looks absolutely stunning in them. For me the colored jewels spoil the look. As stunning as the stones are, I think just diamonds or pearls would have looked more fitting.
