King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden attended the opening of the Amadeus Weekend events held as part of the 2026 Salzburg Festival. The “Amadeus Weekend” was established in 2003 by festival patron Donald Kahn and Eva O’Neill. Since then, O’Neill has organised the exclusive cultural weekend every August as part of the Salzburg Festival.

At the opening of the Amadeus Weekend, the King and Queen first attended a private dinner at Hellbrunn Palace. They then attended the festival’s first major performance, where the opera “Ariadne auf Naxos” was staged at the Haus für Mozart.

Among those attending the opening ceremony were Prince Alexander of Schaumburg-Lippe and his wife, Princess Mahkameh, as well as Eva O’Neill’s daughter, Tatjana D’Abo, and her husband, Henry D’Abo. Funds raised through the Amadeus Weekend events held during the Salzburg Festival are intended to support creative development at the Salzburg Festival.

Oh, Salzburg & Mozart, I love!
All the ladies' look so classy.
Wonderful prints on the lady on the legt and on Q.Silvia and the turquoise gown Is eye- catching as well, pity it doesn't sit well in the waist and hip districts.

Queen Silvia's dress reminds me of a Monet Impressionist painting. She looks good in it.

The colours - arranged in this pattern! - are a clear treat for my eyes. I simply adore it. And yes please, knee length, the best for female proportions. Everything between ankle/floor length and knee length is highly questionable ...

Eva O‘Neill should cover her shoulders like the elegant queen, she would look so much better.

That lady has great shoulders for her age. Her skin is good.

All body parts that women want to show are acceptable. None of us should feel we need to hide ourselves away! This lady in black and white looks superb showing her shoulders. More power to her.

Yes Eva O'Neill (in the black and white dress) is the mother of Chris O'Neill, husband of Princess Madeleine. She is an elegant lady who is looking much younger than her age. She is born in Austria.

I didn’t put that together so thank you for identifying his mother. She looks spectacular in black & white (and silver strappy shoes) and the cut is so flattering. She knows what works for her. I love the colors on the Queen’s dress although it does seem that the level of formality is different between the royals and the ladies.

The Queen’s dress is such a pretty print and color combination, but I really don’t care for the dated short hemline - it looks shrunken. A couple inches longer would look so much better to my eyes.

Queen Silvia sticks to this length for her dresses and skirts since ages. She won't change it and she has still pretty shaped legs. A longer length would make her look older and out of proportions.

Queen Sylvia’s choice of dress is perfect. Those muted cool colours are gorgeous and the knee length just perfect…a smart elegant outfit. The lady in black, Ms. O'Neill outfit is nice, however, the off the shoulder sleeves not so flattering. I love the pattern and the mullet hemline. Her dress also seems to be for a more formal event.

The women seem to be dressed for 2 different events.

  12. The Queen's dress is stunning, love the colors, style and fit. The length of her dress is perfect! She has wonderful shaped legs! Her shawl/drape is a beautiful color. A really clever choice, bringing out the color green of her dress. Her necklace looks interesting, I'm not quite sure what it is.
Eva's b/white dress looks marvelous. She is wearing the most beautiful pearl earrings, her accessories, shoes and clutch are silver, clever choice. The chain of her earrings also White gold, very good combined outfit. The blue gown is very flattering on this lovely looking lady.

Dear 17:33, Why does everybody have to look younger? This is a constant topic on this blog. I was taught that it is much more important to always look your best, i.e.
well-kempt hair, nothing stringy, minimal make-up, covered skin (flesh) once you reach a certain age etc.etc. I remember my mother always observed these guidelines and she looked wonderful until the very end although she was very old.
This also applies to Eva O’Neill although bloggers here have misinterpreted me.
