On Sunday, August 30, 2026, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia attended a service at Västanfors Church in Fagersta, Västmanland County, following the violent incident at Brinell School. The service was led by Bishop Mikael Mogren. After the service, the King and Queen visited the memorial site next to Brinell School.
On August 21, 2026, an 18-year-old student armed with a sword entered Brinell School in Fagersta and attacked students inside the school. A 17-year-old girl was killed in the attack. Three other students were injured, including two boys aged 12 and 17 who sustained serious injuries. A third student sustained minor injuries and was discharged from hospital.

ReplyDeleteGoodness, what a dreadful event, such evil. My deepest sympathy to the loss of life. Prayers for the recovery of the injured. It beggars belief, a supposed safe place, school of all places. I'll never understand the mindset.
ReplyDeleteAva, I agree : it’s impossible to understand. I think it gets harder too, as the context of this 18 year old who has committed the crime (and all of us growing up today) gets more complex (and stupidly wasteful in so many ways): the rise of normalisation of violence via video games, tv, movies, the internet; the constant reporting of fear and terror across media/ social media, the breakdown of community homogeneity which allowed a homogeneous set of values within a community, etc. It’s truly shocking.
DeleteAnon, 10.58 I agree, but you make incredibly good points. The viewing that is easy to access apparently with regards to violence available I too think is a big contributing problem. For one that might be manipulated easily by watching, such like, can be a trigger, its quite alarming to say the least.
