On July 9, 2026, Queen Máxima, together with the Dutch Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, Hans Vijlbrief, visited Amsterdam Zuidoost as part of the Debt-Free Neighbourhood (Schuldenvrije Buurt) initiative. The visit focused on promoting financially healthy neighbourhoods and socially responsible debt collection.
The purpose of the working visit was to share knowledge on place-based approaches, expand successful local initiatives, and strengthen cooperation between the Financially Healthy Netherlands Foundation (Stichting Financieel Gezond Nederland – SFGN) and the National Programme for Liveability and Safety (NPLV).
Queen Máxima, Minister Hans Vijlbrief, and Amsterdam Deputy Mayor Araya Sumter began their visit in G-Buurt Noord, where they met local residents and representatives of the municipality, Buurtteam Amsterdam, and the housing association Rochdale.
The visit continued in K-Buurt, where alderpersons responsible for social affairs from several municipalities discussed the role of financial well-being in achieving the objectives of the National Programme for Liveability and Safety, as well as cooperation with the Financially Healthy Netherlands Foundation.
Queen Máxima serves as Honorary Chair of both the Financially Healthy Netherlands Foundation and Wijzer in Geldzaken (Money Wise Platform).
