On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the grounds of the Libramont Agricultural Fair, two days before its opening. This year, the fair marks its 100th anniversary. The Libramont Fair is Europe's largest open-air exhibition dedicated to agriculture, forestry and agri-food.
The King and Queen learned about the preparations and met with various representatives of the agricultural sector, including the fair's organisers, farmers, students of agronomy and veterinary medicine, and women farmers who are being highlighted as part of the United Nations' International Year of the Woman Farmer.
The King and Queen also attended the unveiling of a mural created especially for this anniversary edition. This year's edition focuses on organic farming and the use of artificial intelligence in the agricultural sector. The fair will take place from 24 to 27 July 2026.
We are being spoilt with beautiful Belgian posts! Mathilde is always lovely. This time I don’t understand her shoe choice though; why so high with a platform under the front of the foot too. Would have been a perfect chance to wear cute sneakers or other flat shoes.
ReplyDeleteYes any other shoes would be good. These appear to have been copied from the model. But they are hugely chunky, must be very heavy, and definitively a twisted ankle waiting to happen. A flat shoe out of the same leather or white sneakers would look great.

DeleteCasual shoes have too many cuts, open toed, plus ankle straps. Looks odd, compared to the skirt and jacket.
ReplyDeleteThe wedges are by Castaner a well known Spanish brand of espadrilles. Queen Mathilde has these shoes since ages. They are leaving probably today or tomorrow to their vacation adress. The canvas bag she has with her and the shirt dress are also vacation wear.
DeleteThe shoes are not really casual when they are so high, but I agree that they don’t match the outset. Something simple would have looked great against the busy dress. Ballerina or low white espradilles shoes would have worked well.
DeleteIf she can walk with wedges why should she wear flat shoes ? These are the shoes she takes with her when she is on a mission for the UN in a hot country in Asia or Africa. She is the one who wants to wear them.

DeleteWho says they are heavy do you have the same ? They can be as light as other espadrilles, besides the dress she wears is also from a Spanish brand because "Lloyd's" is sold by El Corte Inglés the Spanish equivalent of Harrods. Queen Mathilde and King Philippe are sometimes on weekend in Spain. She buys sometimes things there.

I like the dress it suits her so well. I like the shoes however the ankle strap is odd, almost like it was added on. The Kings suit is a very nice taupe colour, very becoming and matches the Queen.
ReplyDeleteAlthough a jacket over a shirt dress, or similar design, isn’t always a hit, I think this combo works well. The dress collar on the outside jacket lapel and matching light shades in the jacket and dress background make it cohesive. Also, the belt and heeled espadrilles create the right proportions. Great outfit!

DeleteThe floral shirt dress is lovely, slight quibble. I don't like the single tiered effect above the knee. I love the colors and pattern on the fabric, very attractive to me. Love, love! the jacket. Wonderful style and fit. I do love the darker brown belt, splendid! Love her large gold earrings. The shoes, canvas bag are a puzzle, rather informal opposed to the stylish shirtdress and jacket. Though the Queen has a lovely pedicure by the look of it, nice red nail polish, well groomed.
ReplyDeleteThe king and queen did their last visit before leaving for their holidays. They probably left on the same day or the day after. Leave them in peace, if they feel comfortable to travel in these clothes which are very good to start their vacation, it is their decision. I know the only reason why the king wished to see the agricultural fair in Libramont (the biggest in Europe) was because it was not open for the public yet and it was the 100 th anniversary of the fair.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit has a constellation of things which I never like: ankle strap wedge espadrilles worn with a frock ; a wide dark belt over a light coloured frock; a blazer over a frock (only Mary of Denmark has done this successfully in my opinion, jackets over dresses so often look like an afterthought); a chintz roses pattern which reminds me of old-style curtains; and finally a whimsical novelty straw bag which would be fine at the beach, but not so much with the business lines of the blazer.
