Wednesday, July 29, marks the national day of the Faroe Islands, and on the occasion, King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark shared a special greeting on Instagram. “Happy Ólavsøka to all the people of the Faroe Islands. We wish everyone some wonderful days, wherever you may be celebrating,” the King and Queen said.

In the post, King Frederik and Queen Mary also shared two photographs from the royal couple’s visit to the Faroe Islands in June 2025. Ólavsøka (National Day) is a two-day celebration held on July 28 and 29, when the Faroese people gather in the capital, Tórshavn, dressed in colorful traditional Faroese attire.

Ólavsøka literally means “Saint Olaf’s Wake.” The celebration commemorates King Olaf Haraldsson II, who died in the Battle of Stiklestad in Norway in 1030. After his death, King Olaf was canonised and became the patron saint of Norway. In the Middle Ages, the Faroe Islands were part of the Kingdom of Norway.

This chocolate field jacket suits Mary perfectly. Love the blouse peeking out from underneath and at the cuffs! Lyra

The brown jacket looks like the lining is too long.maybe its meant to look like that but to me it looks like sloppy tailoring.

Oh please, it's her blouse, not the lining of the jacket. Enlarge the photo and you can see it better.
I love her outfit, would like to have it myself.

I'd like the jacket when closed with classic buttons, not this sort of metal "crochets". Chocolat brown will still be fashion next winter. I've seen this colour in the new collections for autumn-winter 2026-2027.

The chocolate brown really suits Mary. It’s a colour that’s still in the shops. Is it going to endure or suddenly become un-trendy if I buy into the end of season dark brown sale?
