On July 27, 2026, Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko visited Akita Prefecture to attend the National High School Cultural Festival (Akita Soubun 2026). On the first day of the festival, they attended the General Opening Ceremony. The Prince and Princess also visited the Akita Prefectural Museum of Art in Akita City. The couple later viewed works in the calligraphy section at a gymnasium in the city.
