Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan are on a two-day state visit to Belgium. This year, Belgium and Japan are celebrating 160 years of diplomatic relations. On June 20, the Emperor and Empress arrived in Belgium. On June 23, 2026, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde officially welcomed Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Royal Palace.
Following the reception of the Emperor and Empress at the Royal Palace, the King and Queen visited Brussels City Hall together with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. In the evening, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde will host a state banquet at the Castle of Laeken in honour of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.
