On June 24, 2026, Crown Princess Kiko and Princess Kako visited the Earth Garden on the first floor of the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation East Tower in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, to view the “Heralbony Art Prize 2026” exhibition, which showcases artworks created by artists with disabilities from around the world.
The Heralbony Art Prize is an international open-call exhibition organised by Heralbony (headquartered in Morioka City), a company that collaborates with artists with intellectual disabilities. This year, 2,943 entries were submitted from 77 countries and regions, and 62 selected and award-winning works were displayed.
Heralbony licenses artworks created by artists with disabilities to develop products and creative collaborations, providing artists with fair and sustainable income. For the occasion, Crown Princess Kiko and Princess Kako wore skirts and dresses produced by Heralbony. Princess Kako’s dress was designed by artist Yukihito Okabe.
I am not a fan of the dress.

DeleteNo two commenters are the same. Not everyone has the time, the inclination, or even the knowledge of the textile arts, to explain why they like an outfit. In my view that is perfectly fine. Brief comments of approval are very common on this site --- so I can't think why you have singled this one out. I beleive everyone who loves royal fashion and comments politely -- as this commenter has done -- should feel welcome here. Lyra
Thank you Lyra for saying that. I’m constantly surprised about comments which unnecessarily criticise another’s comment; and the ones I really dislike are as the above: where someone has spontaneously expressed delight, and the other commenter attempts to flatten that joy. It’s really unattractive behaviour.

DeleteA delightfully colorful dress on Kako -- with my favorite neckline! The print is just low-key enough not to let the bright colors overwhelm the wearer. I love the fresh, gentle spring palette of her mother's skirt, which reminds me of Monet's "Waterlilies".
ReplyDeleteWhether they planned it this way or not (I suspect they did), I find both ladies outfits delightfully appropriate for an art exhibition. P. Kako's colourful dress looks like a piece of modern art itself, and CP Kiko's skirt looks like a Monet painting. For this reason I like them both immensely. Colour always raises the spirit, and these two lovely ladies are the perfect vehicles for conveying positive emotions.

ReplyDeletePrincess Kako: beautiful colours on a quite unremarkable and yes, for me: thoroughly nonbeautiful dress. Hanging down, kept together by a self-belt, that's all. Very unusual in Kako's case. Kiko's jacket is very pretty.

DeleteUsually, I'm on team Kako. Surprisingly, this time I'm on team Kiko. I find it a rather "out of the box" look for her. Not too conservative (but still, I believe, within the dresscode of the IHA), more summery, flowy. Unusual. Well done, Your Imperial Highness, well done.

ReplyDeleteI love the whimsical and multi-coloured dress that Kako is wearing. It's more of a bold and contemporary look for someone who normally is conservative. I applaud her courage in trying something different. She looks great.

しかし彼女がこのワンピースをもっと自由に着こなしたら、きっと意匠に相応しく素敵だったのに。
この日の着こなしは母親の勝ちです。
I love seeing HIH P Kako continuing gently to push sartorial boundaries, but this dress is, to my eyes, a rare fail for her. I do love the idea of it, especially for an art exhibit, but in execution I don’t think it works. HIH CP Kiko’s skirt, on the other hand, ticks both boxes for me: very pretty, and super apropos for an art exhibit. The color palette makes me think of an Impressionist watercolor. I think this print would be even more successful on the CP as a full dress - the white top dilutes it too much for my tastes. I do like the white top, but don’t think it’s the best pairing for this skirt.
