Prince Albert II of Monaco, Princess Caroline of Hanover, and Princess Alexandra of Hanover visited the exhibition “Wedding of the Century: Monaco, 12–19 April 1956”, held at the Prince’s Palace. In April, Monaco celebrated the 70th anniversary of the wedding that changed the history of the Principality. Seven decades ago, Rainier III married Grace Kelly.
To mark the anniversary of Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly’s wedding, the Prince’s Palace organised a major exhibition entitled “Wedding of the Century: Monaco, 12–19 April 1956.” Open throughout the summer, the exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to discover iconic photographs from the event, as well as treasured keepsakes from the special day.
One of the first iconic pieces on display is the pink and white lace dress worn by Grace Kelly for the civil wedding ceremony. The dress was designed by Helen Rose. Also on display are the gown worn by the Princess for the gala evening and the diamond and ruby tiara gifted by the Société des Bains de Mer.
However, the true highlight of the exhibition is the dress worn for the religious wedding ceremony. Also designed by Helen Rose, this gown later served as inspiration for the wedding dresses of Catherine, Princess of Wales, Princess Sofia of Sweden, and Kitty Spencer.
