The celebration of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s golden wedding anniversary concluded with a private dinner for family and friends in the White Sea Hall at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. On 19 June 1976, the Royal Couple held their wedding luncheon in the White Sea Hall at the Royal Palace. The menu consisted of a selection of dishes that had been served at the wedding in 1976, reinterpreted in a modern style.

For the dinner, Crown Princess Victoria wore a shimmering gown by Christer Lindarw. Princess Madeleine chose to wear a dress that belonged to her mother, Queen Silvia. Queen Silvia had previously worn the dress 21 years earlier, in 2005, at the State Banquet held in honour of King Harald and Queen Sonja during the Norwegian state visit to Stockholm. Princess Sofia wore a floral gown from byTiMo.

It really looks as if Madeleine had her mother’s gown shortened when you see the way the design in the front has changed. I’m not convinced it was a good idea.

I think it is just an effect of Madeleine being taller. The hemline was always sloping with a train as you can see on the Queen.

I love it. Looks like the hem has some reinforcing wire to it and I love the effect!

The dress worn by Princess Madeleine looked better on her mother and before the changes at the hemline had been done (photos N° 8).

I disagree. I love both. Madeline’s version is fresh and fun and elegant in my eyes!

Madeleine should have left mom's dress st it was originally, the lift ruins it!

Queen Silvia: beautifully dressed, es ever!
Madeleine spoilt the dress with the uneven hem.

I don’t think it’s spoilt, it’s changed. As Madeline is taller they would have had to make an adjustment. I think it’s a lovely shape.

No, I think the mullet hemline refreshes the dress. Also, Madeline doesn’t have to worry about tripping over. ..and she get to show off those lovely sandals too! I love the re purposing of the dress.
I am not so sure about Princess Sophia’s boho dress…those sleeves, and the lace with that floral pattern looks too busy, however her posture and poise is a winning combination…not too bad of a look!

I suppose Madeleine is much taller than Silvia, so she wanted to find a solution to be able to wear it. Maybe the original dress had a little train and they decided for this solution? I don't like it either, but maybe they did not want to change the whole skirt part completely - because that would have really spoilt the original.

  7. A mon avis, même si la robe est maintenant avec un ourlet asymétrique, elle va bien à la silhouette de Madeleine !

Princess Sofia's dress is like a parody of a flower patterned romantic dress, category "too much". The dress looks like the slip cover from a couch in a British country house, skillfully wrapped around the wearer.

Each child holds the wife glass in a different manner, so funny to see, I'm sure they three got the same etiquette rules, yet we all go for what feels better for each.

I would have loved to hear the talks during the evening! And a close up of the lovely brooch with the little pictures inside, I guess it is Carl-Gustav and Silvia, but it could also be Silvia's parents...? And my initial feeling remains; Silvia looks absolutely stunning in this dress, and it is nice to see Carl-Gustav a bit relaxed.

I know HRH P Sofia’s dress design is not a favorite for many, and I respect that. I can’t help but like it after seeing closeups of the fabric and the embroidery - they are stunning! The embroidery looks like something from the late Renaissance. I’m aware it isn’t, and it’s probably machine embroidery, but it’s just so beautifully done that at first glance it almost looks hand-done.. If you see a closeup photo you can enlarge, I highly recommend you do so.

  14. I am all for re-wears, however I just do not think this is the dress for Princess Madeline. I think she looks better when wearing outfits with less pattern, less fussy. Both ladies look beautiful though!

Loving all 3 princesses dresses. Each according to their taste. Especially love the modification made for Madeleine, so cool to wear her mom’s old dress and have the cool new hem style.,

The RL looked all fantastic. Pss Madeleine wearing her mother's gown is great, one can see how timeless they are designed to get them an outing many years later and still look super. I really like Pss Sofias gown it looked great, also her updo was good. CPss Victoria looked like she stepped out of Vogue,
