Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako are in Belgium for a two-day state visit. On June 20, the Emperor and Empress arrived in Belgium, where they were welcomed by Crown Princess Elisabeth at Melsbroek Military Airport. Afterwards, the Japanese Imperial Couple traveled to the Royal Castle of Ciergnon, in the Province of Namur, where they stayed over the weekend.
There, the Emperor and Empress met with King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, and their four children — Crown Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel, and Princess Eleonore — at the Royal Castle of Ciergnon.
On June 22, 2026, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived at the Castle of Laeken in Brussels, where they were welcomed by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. The official program of the state visit begins on June 23. The Emperor and Empress will be officially welcomed by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde at a formal ceremony at the Royal Palace.
I’m loving looking at the photos from the Japanese royal tour. The Japanese emperor couple seems so sweet and of course respectful and gracious (and privileged) meeting other like-minded people - the Dutch Royal family, the Belgians - that what they’re wearing just fades into the background for me. Besides which, it is so hot this week in my part of Europe that all clothes seem to be too hot and are a necessity that hold no interest! But these kind faces and gestures in this tour are lovely.

No Self Portrait is starting to copy Dior. Besides before that Queen Mathilde wore already a white jacket in the same style on a white pleated skirt for the visit of Pope Francis to Brussels last year.
حذفThe ladies both look lovely in their individual outfits. Just my take of everyone concerned about height difference, really, like the emperor is not aware he is shorter than most people. He is a very confidant man who does not need concessions from taller people. He is an excellent example of being comfortable as he is.
ردحذفThe style of Mathilde's is dignified and functional for this occasion but the beige colour is very dull. The ivory colour of Masako's suit is more vibrant.
