On May 13, 2026, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands officially opened the State of Fashion Biennale 2026 in Arnhem. At the iconic Eusebius Church, Queen Máxima joined Minister Rianne Letschert, Arnhem Mayor Ahmed Marcouch, and State of Fashion Director Iris Ruisch for a festive opening and a tour of the exhibition installations. State of Fashion is a leading international platform for fashion, textiles, and social transition.

State of Fashion provides a platform for alternatives to the current fashion system. The organization explores how fashion and textiles can contribute to a better world. Every two years, State of Fashion organizes the Biennale, a major public event curated by a continuously changing team of curators. The theme of this edition is “Available to Promise; Hidden Systems, Shared Futures,” focusing on the systems behind the fashion industry.

This is a crazy good outfit and that somehow works due to Max’s exemplary personality and poise, well done.

Maxima looks elegant, stylish and chic in this beautiful white suit and top. The large white statement hat give her a whimsical air of floating lightness which I find quite fitting for the occasion. I also like the touches of green on the jacket embellishment, her purse and shoes.

I am very sorry to say so, but my first and lasting impression is: she looks rather cheap.
Is it the hat that makes this effect?
Maybe with a smaller and matching green hat it would have been far better.

She doesn't look cheap. She is not showing legs or a low neck line. She just wears a big hat appropriate to open and visit this "Fashion biennale".

I thought the same as you 13:57, the outfit is just not quality, it looked cheap, as did some of the others.

This outfit, imho would have looked better without the
    ridiculously large hat.

Her hat is not less or more ridiculous than the hats worn during the garden parties in London.

Whereas I feel the hat makes the outfit - a real statement addition! LRB

@Cate, that you don't like it, is really fine with me. But to call a large hat , worn at a fashion show, of all places, ridiculous because of personal dislike ... well, no.

Maxima at her best, doing what only she can pull off. Modern and relaxed, and the hat is exquisite. 11/10. Lyra

Op een of andere manier ziet het er gedateerd uit, een soort goedkope Joan Collins jaren 70 look .

She looks very nice in this suit, the splash of green is interesting. For me the hat is way to big, only provides good shade. I do like the green dress and the green shoes. The rest is just ridiculous and whimsical and weird.

Beautiful and well cut suit that looks good on Queen Maxima. I find the green detail wasteful. It limits the use of the jacket. How many times does one show up with a distinctive splash like that? Maxima has lots of very interesting brooches that could have worked just as well.

As for the green embellishment, all one needs to observe is the colour of the accessoires, but does this not apply anyway for any outfit? Quite often the lapel of a jacket has a different colour ...

Small hats tilted to complete ridiculousness and adorned with whatever comes handy for the milliner are something rather British. This here, ladies and gentlemen, is Máxima, one of the best Big-Hat-Wearer (Camilla is an artist in that field too). Nobody has to like or wear big hats, but that should not keep us to admit, that she can and, IMHO, should do it. Her outfit is excellent, with the green accents perfect.

Best dressed by far, imo, is the blonde lady in the blue and black dress with shoes in a beautiful coordinating shade of blue. She is so nicely dressed that she looks out of place at this event.

Love the outfit! Especially for the event. It is a fashion event so bold and spectacular outfits are normal (or recommended). So the queen knows how to dress!!!

She is so much fun! So much better then Kate and Mary who always look the same. Luckily we have Queen Maxima, otherwise a fashion blog would be very boring 😃😉

I wouldn't say the outfit is bold. It is a well cut pantsuit that fits her very well. But it is just another pantsuit, well executed. The only bold thing here is the hat. I agree with many that it's too large and it also looks strange under umbrellas (though she can't help the weather obviously). But it's Maxima and I agree with you: at least there's always something interesting to talk about. I appreciate that.

  17. I love this outfit, she looks rather sophisticated. I like the green flecks on the white background, very effective. Love her green accessories. She wore the most beautiful emerald and diamond earrings, and a lovely ring of the same. Yes, the hat is large, but the Queen has flair and she wears this hat beautifully. Imo, it works in well with the overall look of her ensemble. Her makeup is on point. She looks very elegant and chic. One of her most stylish looks. She is never boring or ordinary! and I love it!

@Mayqueen; I'm surprised by your comment: if there's one royal who's not given a pass no watter what she wears than it's QM. If not for the way she's done het hair than it's for her sartorial choices or about supposedly wanting to be the center of attention

Nun's are dressed completely different where I live. They are wearing clothes like every older lady is wearing (there are no young nuns anymore.) Those who are still there are old. The only difference with a civilian is that they are wearing a black veil attached to a sort of little hat, for the rest they wear a black or navy skirt (midi not ankle) and a white or light grey shirt. When it is cold they are wearing a woolen knit jacket in navy or grey on top of their shirt. In winter they are wearing a woolen straight coat in navy or grey.

  24. Love it or Hate it, dit is Maxima ten voeten uit.

The white suit fits her well, I would have preferred a more avant-garde suit for the Biennale. The hat takes too much space.

  27. Anonymous17/5/26 08:20

@19:20 - you obviously are not well educated in the headwear of nuns - some still wear a cornette!

@13:27 - a rather insulting comment about a lady who was a queen regnant and had no need to seek attention or admiration.
